I know that putting a cermaic into a jb turns it into a dd lite, but i'm just curious how much difference there is between that and a real DD. is it worth trying to find the thicker magnet?

You need longer screws and a new spacer to get a dd magnet in a JB. I liked the JB with a normal sized ceramic, not as ballsy but a more vintage feeling. Best was the JB with an A8, rather similar to the smaller ceramic but that certain alnico sponginess.

I don't want to bother with changing spacers so I'll just stick with the normal sized ceramic. Thanks for the info on the A8, I've got a second JB I'm going to try that in before too long.

Make sure you use a quality magnet from wymore or another Duncan. I popped a ceramic into a JB once but it was from a duncan designed pickup. The results were not thrilling.

I've picked up a bunch of magnets from Wymore. I've been playing around with the magnets in some of my gibson pickups but thought it was time to try swapping in my JB's.

I have tried a regular size and a double size ceramic in a Custom.

The difference is small.

I don't think the screws are longer in a DD.
