CEramic Spacers in PAF?

Hello all,

Thoughts on puting Ceramic Spacers in a low wind PAF? Pearly gates Bridge, APH1, 59? Wondering if They would play nice with Alnico 2's or drastically alter the voicing? Theoretically they would just add clarity and the main mag would provide the vocing right?

Thanks Guys.

Let's say that after putting those ceramics in a PAF, there's very little PAF left to be heard.

Re: CEramic Spacers in PAF?

Each type of magnet has its own tonal qualities. Over time the Ceramic magnet will weaken the Alnico's. So adding ceramic spacer magnets isn't merely increasing the power of the pickup. I have swapped Alnico for ceramics on two PAF style pickups with good results. The first was a Dimarzio PAF which I gave a ceramic magnet and hex poles. The second was a Screamin Demon that I used a mix of A5 and Ceramic magnets on. The Demon was completely transformed while the PAF kept some of its character.

PAFs are bright as is, I think ceramic would make it worse.

However, I've tried a SH-6n in parallel with a double thick A4, hex screws, and ceramic flanking magnets. It was good, it had it's own thing going on. Not Stratty, not anything like a P90 or HB. It was unique.

Where'd you get the double thick A4 Christopher?

Axesrus. They also sell narrow magnets, Hot Rail sized magnets and spacers of all varieties. They also sell every thing you need to mod a pickup.

Thx. The motha lovas are sold out of double thick A4, but they have A4 spacers.

If you get the spacers let me know how they work out. I've been thinking about trying them but I haven't got around to it yet. They could exponentially expand the number of tones you could get from mag swaps. Considering there are 6 common grades of magnets and they all have two thicknesses and you can mix and match 6 grades of spacers, that'd make 432 combinations if I did my math right. Not including ceramics that's 250, which could be further narrowed down with testing. But that's a lot more than are current magnet options.

Actually, in theory that sounds like a hecka good combination for a JB. Let us know how it turns out.

It's $$!!! Everything I was hoping for. The accuracy and balance of the A4 and the warmth of the A2.

That's sweet, glad it worked. I've never thought of messing with the spacers, but this could open up a whole new world of fine tuning a pickups sound.

Thanx, yeah it works great. You can hear the influence from each alnico.
