Ceriatone Marshall Clones.

Re: Ceriatone Marshall Clones.

I played through a Ceriatone JTM-45 not too long ago and in all fairness was blown away...there are a lot of guy builting Marshall clones right now ranging from killer handmade stuff like Germino and Blockhead up to and including guys at home on the kitchen table and everybody claims their's is the best...

Im not gonna say the Ceriatone was better than anybody elses but I will say that I was pretty impressed then when the guy that had it tld me where it came from and what he paid for it I was even more impressed!

Another cool thing about Nik is that he also does 800's and even the Bass heads...

Re: Ceriatone Marshall Clones.

The clips I heard from his Trainwreck clone were awesome.

I would buy one if I needed an amp right now.

Re: Ceriatone Marshall Clones.

So, if you buy the "complete amp" that is everything except for the case? So it is fully working but doesn't have a case right?

Re: Ceriatone Marshall Clones.

Fully working, no head cabinet.

But, you can purchase head boxes from Ceriatone.

Re: Ceriatone Marshall Clones.

Hmmm, sounds great!!! If I were to get a Plexi, and have them add a master volume to the back of the amp, would I ruin the sound?

There are different types of master volume, each with differing results. The best sounding ones I've heard have been post-pase inverter master volumes. That's a lot to do with the famous marshall crunch sound being a lot to do with the phase inverter sh*tting itself.

But yeah, master volumes do affect tone. Don't buy a 50 or 100w plexi if you're a bedroom player. Those are gigging amps.

One option would be getting a 50w model and installing the London power power scaling kit.

Re: Ceriatone Marshall Clones.

Nik will install a mastver volume...it won't ruin the tone but it won;t sound the same as when you crank it up either...the power scaling is another option...it's a lot more money that a master volume but it is VERY impressive!

Re: Ceriatone Marshall Clones.

Nik uses some big, very big transformers to help get that tone factor working.

To me it is a close race between Nik and Scott_F products.

Both have high quality and use highest possible quality components. And both will ship to USA... (Scott_F is from Texas). However, Nik will ship worldwide and easily accommodate 120V and 220/240V...

Scott_F ships with complete inside a head, Nik ships a amp sans enclosure...

Pick and choose.

Re: Ceriatone Marshall Clones.

I just built up a Metroamp JTM-45. I'd check them out. The quality is incredible, the instructions and forum is well-developed with excellent photos/PDFs, and more Marshall experts on that forum than will fit in a clown car!

As far as the real vs. clone comp. Well, they spec trannies to match a variety of vintage samples, same goes for caps/resistors, etc. so I don't know how much closer you can get. Also, the nice thing is that you can do it yourself if you're so inclined.

The metro kit costs about 900 or so USD, and when you compare Scott's prices, maybe that's the way to go if you want a first class amp built up for you. If I didn't want to do it myself, I would have gone with a celtic.

If you're in the US, most ceriatone buyers will have the board shipped and hold off on the trannies (due to weight) and have a us amp tech install some Heyboers, MM, or whatever transformers you prefer.

Good luck!
