I think there was an interview with Diaz a d=few years back in Vintage Guitar, where he discussed getting Stevies sound together and working in Clapton's favorite Tweed Twin Reverb. Nice article. Unfortunately, I don't remember the issue #. Check their archives.

I just checked, and it's there. Just do a search under his name and you'll find it. I think its the second in the results. It was a recap after he had passed away.

I don't recall SRV's amps being modded to any extreme. Cesar Diaz's main job was to beef up the amps w/t heavy duty speaker,And basically keep the amps up and runing from SRV's torture. I know he put 5751 preamp tubes in the VI slot of all his amps to keep Stevie's tone from breaking up to soon. (A5751 is 30% less gain 12AX7) He also may have replace the 68k input resistors on some of Stevie's amps to 100k? (You don't want to do this, It's the same as turning your guitar volume down to about 6 or 7.) Another trick he pulled on Stevie was he would tell him to keep his bass knob on 4. SRV was superstitious and would put it on 6 or 7. So Cesar readjusted the knob so it appeared to be on 6... But it was really on 4.
