My buddy just got one for pretty cheap off of ebay. Anyone have experience with one? Mods? Anyone other than Torres offer mod kits?

Just an amalgamantion of bad ideas all locked into one place.
The second channel is almost completely useless; cranked up it sounds worse than when playing quieter...which defies basic amp physics.
The input jacks had a great habit of stripping threads and then detaching from the board....nice little feature there.
The amp is overly mid-rangey to begin with....so it really NEEDS the pull-for-mid-boost feature.
At best with a few pedals on the clean channel you may be able to get something good out of it as a bedroom amp...but it's just WAY too quiet for rehearsals or gigging.
Like I said...had one for a long while...first amp I ever had...never ceased to sound just terrible at all times.

That sucks! I hope that my buddy isn't too dissapointed. It was an impulse buy and it's strictly a bedroom amp. BTW, what year was yours?

Hard to say what the year was; I bought it used in 1988 for $35 and parted ways with it in 2002 for $150. In the middle there it ran me about $100 for a repair and probably a cap job so I made $15 on the deal.
For bedroom....eh...as long as the tubes never get pushed it's probably fine. But I would by no means use it as anything BUT a loudspeaker for pedals.

I've owned a Champ 12 for years. I love it !! It's a Great Lil' practice amp. If you expect to gig with you will be disappointed. The Torres Mod & Good tubes smooth out the harsh gain channel, And turn it into very usable O.D.

I put a Alnico 12'' speaker in mine w/t a N.O.S. 6L6GC and it became a Lil' tone box. Who else makes a class A amp w/t reverb,12" speaker,headphone jack and can be had for around $200?:smokin:
