Champion 600

I just got my Champ 600 yesterday, and I fired it up for the first time today.

Ok heres the skinny:

Specs: 5watts - 6inch speaker - hi/low out put inputs - single volume knob.

Speaker: its ok but its a 6inch. Not alot of room for fullness and doesn't play well with bassier tones. Not a big deal cause I have a 1 x 12 cab on the way.

Power: this thing is loud ofr 5 watts. I cranked it and it was b-e-a-utiful. low output get a little grit, the hi output really digs in there. Very warm sounding even with stock tubes. In order to really get a good tone/sound you gotta have the volume passed 7. Over all I'm really diggn' this amp.

Volume knob: I was really hesitent in getting amp with only a single knob (volume) at least the pro junior has vol/tone knobs. After playing it I didn't miss the other eq knobs, it's actually a great learning tool because your forced to work with the natural tone of your guitar/pups and amp.

Overall this is a great little amp, I have some clips recorded but I haven't uploaded them yet(advanced apologies I just rec vid clips w/my cam sound is ok).

I'll post a update alittle later I'm going to replace to stock tubes w/Tunsols I just have to wait till the tube cool abit.

Re: Champion 600

I played through a Champ 600 a couple of weeks ago and I was amazed. The cranked tone is so smoooooth and naturally distorted.

I'm building a Champ clone but never get the time to focus on it (from scratch...not a kit) and I was so tempted to get a Champ 600 in case I never finish my build. Every time I sit down to work on it my soldering iron only just about reaches 100 F. and my wife calls me to _______________[put some boring typical household task here].

What an impressiive little amp for home use, especially through a 1 X 12" cab (which I happen to have built recently, even more reason to go get a Champ 600).

The guys at the store put it through a 4 X10" and they were really impressed

Enjoy your amp bro'...and the 1 x 12", when it arrives.

Re: Champion 600

I like a tele into em with a nice clean tone around 5 on the volume best.

I'm happy with the single 6inch speaker.

If you need more volume, run a boost into em, they can get pretty loud after you add a little heat infront of em.

Re: Champion 600

I almost bought that amp just on impulse, and then realized I really dont need another amp. Its the price of a good pedal, sounds awesome, and probably would be even more awesome with good tubes and (if you can find one that small) a nicer speaker. Its easy to use, a good volume, and lots of fun

Re: Champion 600

Update Last night I switched the stock Chinese tubes for the Tungsols. I was amazed at the difference it made. It really breathed life into this little amp. I thought it was pretty good w/stock tubes now it sounds like a $1000 boutique amp. If any of you guys get this amp switch the tubes and you will totally get addicted to this little guy.

Tone wise it just fattened up like crazy, the warmth that it lacked was there. I have to say I'm really happy with this amp.
