Change Amplifiers

So for the longest time I've had a Mesa Single Rectifier Series 1, and I run it through a Splawn 4x12 with the Eminence Redcoats in an X pattern.

A while ago I made a patch on my PodXT Live (which I later had to sell). This is the sound I've always had in my head only with a more depth, and a little more thump, which a tube amp would do. Listen particularly to the parts from 1:02 on, before that is just me messing around with a reverse delay. Both parts were done with a Patch like this (as far as I can remember):

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=648336

Gibson Explorer with JB --> PodXT Live --> Audacity

Marshall Super Lead
4x12 with Greenbacks or V30's
Boosted for More Gain with the Classic Distortion
Probably a Little Touch of Reverb/Chorus but probably barely noticeable
And I know I messed with the EQ a little

Now my Mesa is great and it works but what amp would really give me this sound. It sounds to me like a JCM 900 since it is brighter than most Marshall Sounds I hear, and a little on the dry side. If I could get this sound out of my mesa with a change to El34's, or my Speakers that would be ok too but Mesa's are all lows and low mids while this is very high/high mids so I'm assuming I just need an amp change.

If anyone could help me that would be much appreciated :yourock:

Re: Change Amplifiers

You've got to post a clip, man. The description alone that you give here could sound like any number of amps.

Re: Change Amplifiers

A Splawn would do that... I should know! :D A Splawn would have more low-end and maybe a little more emphasis on the low-mids, though.

You're right about that clip sounding like a lot like a JCM 900, though. You could probably get one of those a lot cheaper than a Splawn.

Re: Change Amplifiers

Hmm while a Splawn would be great and I could get one to match my Splawn Cab, I think I'm going to try a JCM 900 first purely because it's over 500 Dollars less lol.

Thanks a lot guys!

Re: Change Amplifiers

Just make sure you replace the stock tubes with something decent like JJs when you get it. That'll do a lot to remove some of the ice-pick and buzzyness that 900s can have.
