Change Slugs polepieces to screw polepieces

Re: Change Slugs polepieces to screw polepieces

Well, the slug coil usually isn't threaded, so there's that....

And then you have the bobbin hole size, which is different.
And the fact that the baseplate often doesn't have a double row of holes in it

Without a lot of work the answer is no.

You'd find it easier simply to buy another pickup of the same type and swap the whole bobbin across.

Pretty much every Duncan I've owned has the baseplate drilled for 12 poles. If they weren't, you wouldn't becable to swap a bobbin to makeca 12 pole'bucker.

This being said, I have a double screw Custom Shop 59/Custom Hybrid that is really wonderful. If you have 2 threaded bobbins on pickups, it is worth experimenting with regular screws, hex screws, etc. The different shapes focus the sound in different ways.

Different steel alloys will have the biggest effect on tone. Low carbon steel is warmer. Screws often have lead in them for ease of machining. The old PAF screws had lead in them. Higher carbon steel is brighter sounding.

Then the length of the screw also matters.

Re: Change Slugs polepieces to screw polepieces

My pickup has holes in both.
I must remove slug polepieces and install metal spacer to screw polepieces?

Re: Change Slugs polepieces to screw polepieces

What are you trying to change about your sound that you don't like? And what pickup is this?
