changing dimarzio set for........

hi dudes.... i aint very happy with the pups on the guitar after a month or so of having installed them

(the duncans that appears on the guitar were the first ones i had on the guitar....did not like them neither...they were the parrallel axis distortion trembucker and a Jazz)

i dunno why but i find the tone zone a litle shrill on the high strings, it lacks something for some kind of rhythm guitar works...and the paf pro, i missed something with this pup also...btw i got an esp axe with a jb/59' last week and was very satisfied with the set of pups on that axe...so im probably changing the dimarzio set and come back with duncans (emg supporters please post your opinions also) or other...

here is the axe specs: maple neck thru with alder wings and ebony board. 24 3/4 fret board, 24 frets...floyd rose original, tone and vol...and a 10-46 string gauge

i will play only metal with this axe...Standard tuning

so what do you think about getting a duncan set? which one? Dimebucker vs DD vs Custom for bridge? (i already have a jb/59' and honestly i don´t want another set...don´t want my guitars to sound all the same) or a couple EMGs (i don´t care about the battery nor other cons if the sound is the one i wanted) which ones? 85-85 or 85-60a? other?

thanks a lot guys

You have tried using your amps tone controls right? Finding a Tone Zone shrill is pretty bizarre.

Re: changing dimarzio set for........

I wouldnt suggest a dimebucker for that setup. It'd likely be a bit too bright. I had one in a mahogony bodied guitar w/ a rosewood fretboard and it was bordering on being a little harsh...I can imagine with the floyd and ebony board that'd push it over the edge.

The custom sounds like the best bet to me out of the duncan lineup.

Also, I've heard good things about the EMG 85, though I've never actually played one.

yeah its a bit weird but...btw the overall tone of the pickup doesnt work for me, maybe i am looking for an extreme pickup more than a overall good pickup...thats why i´m thinking to go for active ones

thanks for the replies

Re: changing dimarzio set for........

I would go for DiMarzio Breed set or Evo2 bridge + Evolution neck set!
As for Duncans: Invader set.
EMGs: 85 neck / 81 bridge.

Have fun!

Re: changing dimarzio set for........

Yeah, try out an 85 bridge, 81 or 60 neck combo.

If you don't like that, I'd say a Custom/Full Shred.

yeah if i´m gonna try emgs i will pick the 85 for bridge, but i can´t stand ceramics for neck pups, so...do you know something about the 60 alnico pup? it is difficult to find?

again, thanks for the replies

If you use the regular EMG60...you wouldn't even think for a second that it is a ceramic...it's very warm and balanced IMO.
