what pickup should I turn to?? I want to change my JB to other pup, I want a pup that can versatile enough like the JB, but at the same time can gives me great clean sound and great distorsion. I like the JB but for my ears it sounds thin. I read from this forum that C5 is a great pup for Fender Strat, bcause my guitar is a Fender American Deluxe, So maybe between the Custom, Custom Custom and C5,,
what do you guys think??
thanks guys....

Re: Changing JB to ???

I had the same problem with the JB in my Paul.... I went to the SH-14 Custom 5 and I couldnt be happier.... I think it distorts great and has a good tonal blend across the range... It does clean up nice but nowhere near as well as the JB.

I made the mistake of being REALLY impressed by the clean sample of the JB and playing that against the compromise of the dirty sound. Then realized AFTER I bought it that I dont use the clean sound in the rear position (never have) and the dirty meant more to me.

The Custom 5 was just what the Dr. ordered for me but I have no Idea what it will do in your strat..... I know it will sound GREAT but I dont know if it will be the EXACT sound your looking for in your strat.

I think of it as a Stock Gibson humbucker with ALL the bad traits gone. (feedback-shrill highs) and all the good REALLY punched up ( punch-clairty-harmonics-tone)

How about the '59? It has good cleans and a nice Distortion. Or Maybe the Alnico 2 Pro, which is maybe even a bit better clean as it sings a bit more and has a warm tone and also cool distortion.

the CC under the right settings sounds CRUSHING just go to the clips section and listen to WFD's recordings.

yeah.. I was thinking Custom might be a good idea, since I used Custom in my squire showmaster.. and it sounds great!!
but it's a different guitar,, my showmaster is a basswood and rosewood fretboard with 500k vol pot,,
my fender has a alder and rosewood with 250k vol pot..

Re: Changing JB to ???

I gotta agree with Wicked Lester. I had TB4s in all my Jacksons and was never really thrilled. When I bought my BC Richs they had Seymours in them as well and I was kinda scared they weren't gonna do it for me. My Mockingbird had Duncan Custom in the bridge and boy did it make a difference. I pulled the TB4 outta the bridge in my Bich and put a Custom in there. My favorite P/U.

Re: Changing JB to ???

Hehe ... another thread where every pickup ever made will get listed. :)

For a Duncan pickup, if you don't like the JB, then you will probably have to go to a ceramic magnet. I have had zero luck with the Custom, C5, etc.I would recommend the Screamin' Demon with no hesitation; it does high gain very well, and since it's a bright pickup, clean tones have a lot of shimmer.

For a non-Duncan pickup I would recommend the Bare Knuckle Warpig. Brutal lead tones as well as delicate cleans.
