Changing Kluson style tuners

I want to change the Kluson style tuners on my SG for all metal style tuners. I like Grovers but I bought a set and the mounting screw holes just don't quite line up with the bottom hole left by the Klusons. Theyre off maybe 1/32". I'm not going to make new holes so close to those old ones or go through the whole deal with plugging and redrilling. I've read many places that they drop right in but they obviously don't. I've also read that the locking Grovers are a bit smaller than the regular ones which sounds like they might fit. Does anyone know if this is true? My next option is to use Schallers or Gotohs with the mounting screws off to the side instead of directly beneath the tuner, but I really like Grovers.

First question has to be, what do you dislike about the Kluson keystone style heads? My chief gripe with them is the lack of gear tension adjustability. In most other respects, they perform perfectly well provided that the strings are tied on such that they clamp them selves firmly against the string posts.

The argument in favour of Kluson replica heads is their low mass. Grovers of all sizes are considerably heavier than Kluson types. This will shift the weight balance of your SG towards the headstock, possibly to the extent that neck dive becomes a constant problem.

If your SG is a model without fingerboard edge binding, Schaller makes a Kluson replica with the small, white, round plastic buttons normally associated with Gibson Junior and Special models. http://guitar-machine-heads.com/hp530423/ST6BNI-K-10160199.htm
