Changing pickups in my SG

Well, I'm going to attempt to change the pickups and it'll be my first time soldering/wiring. I plan on practicing and did the research on soldering. I have one last question. I opened up the back of my SG and planned on just wiring the exact same way but I can't tell how exactly the pickup is wired to the pot. It looks like one wire from the pickup and from there a smaller one to the tone control. I'm nervous to desolder not knowing how it's wired to the pot. It's a SH2 neck and JB bridge right now. I wanted to try some WCR's in both postions. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Re: Changing pickups in my SG

Just replace the wires as they are now. One should go to a lug on the pot, and the ground should be soldered to the back of the pot, if it's a vintage style pup, as I assume the WCR is.

P.S. Seymour has a video on the SD website, showing how to put in new pups.

Good luck,

Jeff

Thanks...I'll give it a shot..I figure if I mess up, I can just take to the tech...I'm just getting tired of dishing out money when I can probably do it myself. I have two SG's a 61 reissue and a standard. I put seths in the reissue and jazz/jb in the standard. I do like both but would love to try wcr's darkburst/godwood combo which is very expensive...about 310 for the combo. Thanks for the help with the install.

Re: Changing pickups in my SG

I've got Seths in my '61 reissue and love them. I wanted to try the "Crossroads" set from WCR, but they're also big $$.

Good luck. Let us know how you make out.

Jeff
