hey guys i own a strat lookalike and i'm planning to change all three pups.
i need some suggestions and your wisdom on this one. i listen to all types of music:blues, rock( ZEPPELIN BABY),punk, metal etc. so i want versatility.

i'm thinking about a cool rails in the neck, a vintage rails in the middle, and a hot rails in the bridge.

if you guys have any suggestions for other pickup combinations or feed back on my idea it would be really appreciated. THANKS

I like the Texas Specials in my Roadhouse strat. Rosewood neck. Vintage tone with an edge. Cool for blues and classic rock. Some people think they are too harsh; but they work for me.

cool thanks for the response, so what do you think of my possible combo?

neck - cool rails
mid - vintage rails
bridge - hot rails

OR

neck - cool rails
mid - cool rails
bridge - cool rails

Thanks for the replies this is my first post and i thank you guys for the response.
I'm seriously thinking about the:

neck: cool rails, mid: vintage rails and bridge: hot rails

I've heard that there is a possibility that the hot rails may overwhelm the vintage rails. So i'm still on the fence. i'm also considering

neck:cool rails
mid: cool rails
bridge: hot rails

i'm wondering if this is a better set up

welcome to the board

see, when i read what music you are into, i dont see a set of 'rails' as getting you there as much as, say, a lil 59 in the neck, VR in the middle and a lil JB in the bridge

... with some splitting options for the n and b, you'd be versatile all day and part of the night :D

... but then again, i might be missing the point entirely

good luck

Re: Changing stock pickups NEED HELP!!!

Thank you for the welcome. I think i was a little vague with the type of tones i want to get out of this guitar. I'm using a JAY turser strat lookalike and i wanted to get a hotter tone. Think along the lines of metallica and nirvana but i still want the ability to have a clean vintage tone. Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks guys
