Why? It's got everything a guitar needs. It's made in USA in a high-level factory, and it has a special finish. I don't understand why it shouldn't be priced that way.
Why wouldn't Eddie play with a bolt-on?

Whether or not EVH really striped them all is something you´re free to speculate over, but AFAIK he did.

For many years, his main axes (that he toured with) were bolt-ons. There are horror stories of him actually breaking necks during shows and having to swap them with whatever they could find.
As for his studio guitars, he used almost everything. So yes and no. I think his favorite studio axes were probably set neck, though. He loves Korina, and I know he used an Explorer on some songs. Who knows what else though.

Compare the specs for that guitar with any other guitar of similar specs made in a "high-level factory" and you'll see that this one is roughly $2,000 more expensive. Why? Because it's a "designer" guitar that's associated with EVH. $2,000 for a tape-job? No thanks.

So you´re telling me I can get "any other guitar of similar specs made in a `high-level factory`" for 500 Dollars? :bsflag:
Because the street price from a good dealer is arounnd or even under 2.5k with case, 26xx is MAP..
Now, if we take a Charvel San Dimas 1h/Floyd, which is essentially the same guitar, with an alder body (basswood means custom shop), without the Custom Pickup, without the Strathead, without the D-tuna, with a different neck profile, without the EVH reference, we´re paying about 8-900 bucks less...whether those additions are worth that much to someone is a different question entirely.
But considering that the custom shop STARTS at a street price of pretty exactly 1.8k for a singlehum with Floyd...
I just don´t like to see things blown this far out of proportion, that´s all

Basswood is an excellent tonewood, the unplugged tone of my Wolfgang is beautiful. Having said that, the downside is that it's very soft and it dents easily. Not a problem if you're careful, but what is a problem is that the screw holes tend to strip pretty easily, as Fretfire mentioned. In the three years I've owned my Wolfgang, I've had to fix stripped mounting holes in both pickup cavities and the jack route. This is under normal use, it's not like I'm sitting here constantly adding and removing the screws. I wish I could find a wood with the tone of basswood, but the durability of mahogany.
As for the guitar in question, I'm sure they're very nice, but you're paying for the name. You could build the exact same thing with Warmoth or USACG parts and pay $700-$800 or so.

Personally, I think it would be cool to own a guitar that I KNOW For sure that EVH striped himself, but I wouldn't pay that much just to have a guitar that I probably wouldn't play anyway. I think it's ridiculous that they're charging that just for a crappy less-than-$1000 basswood guitar with a custom paint job. Anybody could tape it and stripe it by themselves, just as EVH did and end up with a legendary axe that people would one day pay thousands for. These guitars just don't seem like a good investment at all.

Exactly what is it about that guitar that justifies that price in your mind? Its a strat with a floyd. They should be selling for about a grand, not 2k+. These aren't hand made instruments like and Anderson, Baker or Suhr. They are made on a line just like a strat is.

Exactly what is it about that guitar that justifies that price in your mind? Its a strat with a floyd. They should be selling for about a grand, not 2k+. These aren't hand made instruments like and Anderson, Baker or Suhr. They are made on a line just like a strat is.

i am a Van Halen Addict but there is no way in hell i would pay that much money for a guitar like that.
NO BOLT ON is worth near that much, i think.
besides the vibe is building it the way Eddie did. which is also a bit of hype ( oh by the way i have studied everything about Eddies playing and stuff so much that guitar friends of mine used to tell me i know how Eddie breaks wind)
What i meant about the hype is that on most of the first album Ed plays the Ibanez destroyer that is made out of Korina.
Hot for Teacher is played on a Vintage flying-V i am almost sure that is made out of Korina if not Mahogany. the same guitar was used for "Standing on top of the World".
The guitar he plays alot in Van Halen II is made from a think slab of Mahogany that Boogie Bodies made for him to make up for the Floyd Rose thinness sound as he called it.
oh Yeah which reminds me, that he NEVER recorded before 1984 with the FLOYD cause it sounded too thin to him. Look it up if you dont believe me.

i mean think about it-----he says 'i built my own cause the store bought ones cant do what mine can do and i built it for 200bucks " \
and then he comes out and says spend over 2000 bucks to buy my guitar made of cheap wood?

At first he says that he used the black and white guitar from the cover of the first album on all of his albums up to 1984. I don't know how you got into this, unless you mean by hype that he didn't use the striped guitar much. If that's the case, let me tell you he used striped guitars A LOT on tour, though there were many variations of it (those three color schemes, different necks, different brands).
