Just because it´s bolt on it´s less work to shape the neck, carve the body, finish the whole guitar, and generally build it?? Do you REALLY, and honestly, think that the neck joint is the ONLY piece of work in building a guitar, and all the routs and sanding are done by some fairy, just because it´s a bolt-on??? ROFL :smack:

Pot? This is kettle. Your black.

I said no such thing. After the 9 Warmoths I have built over the years I would say I know a bit about building instruments. All the stuff you list has to be done for any strat. If you really believe that EVH isn't collecting 30-50% of the purchase price of that instrument you need to think again. You can get far superior instruments for the money.

All these quotes are getting confusing, but it looks to me like Zerb's statement is actually in reference to what tone? said, not TheArchitect.

Very possible. If I have misunderstood my apologies.

Warmoth prices:

Basswood body: $165
Maple neck/fretboard: $175
Original Floyd Rose: $175
D-Tuna: $50 (not from warmoth)
Tuners: $30
Misc. Electronics: $30 (est.)
SD pickup: $100-$110 (unless you go somewhere else)
Pickguard: $20
Shipping: $50

Total: $760+

Throw in paint, assembly and set-up, you're looking at well over $1000 if you have someone else do the work. You're still looking at $800 or more if you do it all yourself. Considering the collector's value of the guitar and the lifetime warranty, it's not really such a bad deal, I guess.

I'm actually pretty interested in building a Warmoth version of the Charvel. Do you guys think I can get enough info off the Internet to do it myself? If not, I'll check how much tech around here charge to build the things.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I can get Warmoth to paint the body for me (I just want a solid color).

Just follow that list, man, or something pretty close. Get whatever body/neck woods you want. And it would be cheaper if you used another bridge (though I suggest the OFR if you're using a tremelo). Figure out what pickups you want and use that to decide what electronics you need. It's pretty simple to put it all together, but it may take a little trial and error your first time. And yes, there's all kinds of info on the net about how to do all of it.

I'm not sure about the solid colors, but they do have translucent colors, so they probably will do solid, too.

There's nothing wrong with bolt-ons. In fact, when compared to a glued-in neck, a proper bolt joint will likely have no discernable loss of sustain, etc. I prefer bolt necks personally, you don't have to scrap the whole guitar if something happens to it. Body irreparably damaged? Slap the neck on a new one. Neck f.u.b.a.r.? Yank it off and stick a new one on there.

My Exact opinion.

Still, the most expensive guitar ill ever be able to afford is $200 or less. :(

Im poor and I just got really lucky with my platium pro and cherish it. Its a bolt on with a LFR and im not sure what kinda wood the body is but its alot harder than basswood. It sounds as good if not better than a Les-Paul to me.

If anyone thinks a bolt-on isnt good, they should talk to fender.
I dont think fender even makes a single set neck guitar.
And look at what they charge for their guitars! $1000+ For their MIA.

Re: !!!Charvel EVH Artist Series!!!

All I can say is this thread is NOT good...

I've been having an increase in GAS pains for a new Jackson shred guitar for a couple months now (not that I *can* shred, but I'll look cool sounding really bad).

I think the EVH's are overpriced too, however AFAIC, to each his own. If someone has the $, wants the guitar and it meets their personal criteria, then let 'em enjoy it.

BTW...Zerb..school me on the MIA "production" Jacksons, please...good value? EDIT :they may be japanese for all I know...SL series...SL3 in particular

Those look like they'd be a good deal. Definitely a lower cost alternative to the Charvel. Probably not quite as good, but I'm sure it's not bad.

Cool! Thanks N00b!

Yeah, probably not as good but you can still mod them! :32:

Re: !!!Charvel EVH Artist Series!!!

We own a black and yellow EVH Art Series Guitar and if you want to play like Eddie then this is the guitar. This is where the sound comes from. It is all about how the guitar is set up. It was worth every penny.

The SL3 IS Japanese. You get rosewood fingerboard instead of the ebony one of the SL1 and 2, and you get a licenced Floyd (JT580LP by Jackson) instead of the OFR. Also you get JB/Hotrails/hotrails instead of JB/Classicstack/classicstack (I think) of the SL1. The SL2 has a JB and a jazz or 59, I'm not too sure.
Personally if i had to pay 1,000 euros, pounds or dollars less, I'd definitely go for the SL3. In France I have to pay 2,800 euros for an SL1 and less than 1,400 euros for an SL3.

You want a cheap EVH? Charvel model 1 (vintage trem) or 2 (Floyd). You even get the Jackson J90 pickup (he used one of this for a bit didn't he?) and the model 1 has a maple fingerboard. What more to ask? Use tape for the stripes :p. Total cost, at the most 400 bucks, if you're really picky and you upgrade everything.
