Great guitars... if you can live with the headstock you won´t be disappointed ;)

Don't like that Headstock? It is different....

Take a look at the middle pic....It´s not bad, I don´t mind, but many prefer a strathead, that´s all ;)

so......is this a late model?? like 90s??
i know that the head of 80s model was like jackso's ...

Re: Charvel San Dimas III

´95-96 to be exact.. Jackson/ Charvel hasn´t been allowed to build stratheads for the US market since the late ´80s (and still can´t outside of limited runs and the EVH Art series).

In ´90 and ´91 there were about 300 stratheads for the european market, and I think there was also a Japanese Strathead run for the Japanese market..... but all the San Dimas Reissues have the "gumby" headstock pictured.

BTW, I´m not too sure on the switch, that may be aftermarket... But I´ll need a bit of time to check....

I would love to have a San Dimas, though not a purple one.
How would the San Dimas compare to the Jackson PC-1 Phil Collen rig? Phil Collen

Re: Charvel San Dimas III

Well, a real SD is a totally different beast price and Mojo wise, but these are in a way similar... The New SD Pointies are much closer to the originals, though (spot on, to be honest ;) )

Can´t compare to the PC-1 becasue I refuse to even risk playing one (PC-1) as long as they´re factory loaded w/ Dimarzios, sorry ... more or less the only Jackson I´ve never touched, though chances would´ve been there ;)

Re: Charvel San Dimas III

Doesn't Fender own both Charvel and Jackson now? Why would they stop Charvel from using the strat head on the modern SD if that's the case?

What Dimarzio's does the PC-1 come with?

Fender has owned JCMI since October 2001... these guitars we´re talking about were produced in ´95-96.

On new USA SD guitars (2k4 and later): Licensing issues and the corresponding legalese. Fender and JCMI are not the same company, so JCMI has to jump through the same hoops as everyone else to build a strathead.... THE EVH Art series, Bullseye Reissues and 25th Anniversary axes all have a "headstock licensed ba FMIC" or similar sticker on the back.

FMIC can make it a bit easier, and they have (or do you see anyone else producing Stratheads in Volume IN THE USA, regardless of limited run/ artist sig or not?).. but if they make it too easy the Justice deopartment will come crashing down on them with "Cartel" and other BS...

What Dimarzio's does the PC-1 come with?

BTW, PC-1s as of approx. July now also have stratheads ;)

Re: Charvel San Dimas III

I've been wanting a PC-1 for a long time. I played one for like 5 minutes and was impressed enough in that short span of time to develope serious GAS for one. Its not above a soloist but its close. They are just too damn expensive even used.

Man those look nice!!!!!! My 87 Charvel looks just like those..... Jackson style pointy headstock, red body with a single Jackson humbucker and a 6 screw trem.... I don't think my Charvel would be any where near as nice as these new ones as far as quality, but mine only cost me $200 Canadian a few years ago.... I could never see why anyone would build a pointy headstock guitar and use a non-locking trem... tuning trouble like mad.... But i do have to say that Charvel has THE NICEST NECK ON EARTH! I bet these new ones have great necks too! Oil finnished are they not?
