Re: Charvel Skatcaster, why so cheap?
Thanks for the grammar lesson, you know the really sad thing is I'm a high school English teacher! Your children are all doomed!!! The head stock is awful but the neck looks to be fairly nice? Mind you I said "looks", I haven't actually picked one up & played it so I guess it could be a nicely bound pile of garbage? I have a single Humbucker Charvel Desolation Star & it plays beautifully, I've never even had to do a set up on it! I swapped out the Bridge Bucker with something a little special, because if you are only going to have one pickup it should be a badass one & strings once but as far as the Floyd, truss & the rest of the neck go everything's the same as it was when I took it out of the box! I dropped $1,600 on a Tele a few months back & then had to drop a bunch more money getting the frets filed & polished, I also had it scalloped just cuz the idea of a Tele with a scalloped neck seemed a little odd & kind of cool to me! Fender's Q.C. has gone to hell since I was a kid, it's getting so the Chinese models play better than the U.S. stuff? They probably lose a toe for every fret bur over there but swap out the guts & you got an awesome guitar!!!! Perhaps it has something to do with the small hands of the 5yr old who's finishing the frets & doing their setups??? I'll put my M.P. Marauder up against any non Custom Shop U.S. Fender out there & in all I got maybe $500 into it? That's including buying the guitar new, new Duncan 500k pots, a TB-11 in the bridge & a 62 reissue Jazzmaster pup in the neck, & I had to swap the 5way they put in there to accommodate that stupid, gimmicky Triplebucker to a 3way switch. So about $120 in parts & a hour of my time gave me one of the best guitars I own! BTW, whoever came up with the Triplebucker design needs to be kicked in the, well you get it, what a awful idea!
