Charvel superstrat + EMG 81/85

Hi brothers

I'm thinking about put those two pick ups on my Charvel H-S-H, basswood body
I've already got the 81 and 85, but i need one single for the middle position. Which one I need to buy? The SA model?
And how about the sound? anyone here has tried EMGs on basswood superstrats? I use this axe mostly for 70's and 80's hard rock

For 70's and 80's hard rock I'd go with an 85 in the bridge, SA in the mid, and a 60A in the neck. Use a master volume and an SPC control and you'll be set.

If you will go with the 85/81, try the ceramic S, as it will match better with the 81 and have slightly higher output than the SA.

yeah either way you put them it'l rock! and get them up nice and close.

my $.02's:
if you'll be doing more leads i'd go 85b / 81n.
if you play mainly rythm i'd go 81b / 85n

the 85b gives you warmer leads while still maintaining that edge. and the 81b will sound darker more "HEAVY METAL" while the 85b will sound more "HARD ROKKEN"

the 81n gives you that bluesier bite (ah la kirk hammet) while the 85n will give you that chrunchier sizzle (ah la zakk wylde).

another thing to do is wire them at 18v instead of 9v for more articulation and increased headroom. for that, all you need to do is ad another batt terminal in series. (connect opposite colours between the 2 batt terminals and you're there)

what about an 89 in the neck?

BTW, I'd go SA in the middle. It's the gilmour pup.

Thanks for the tips guys.. I just need to buy a pick up for the middle position.. I don't use it so much, but it's nice to play strat sounds, i'll look for a used one

gilmour uses alder strats not basswood strats. i have 2 SA's in a basswood charvel model series and for the middle pickup its O.K. i'd try the ceramic S or the SV. but that's just me.
