I'm now setting my rig up for our next string of tours and it's got lots goin on now. I have a footswitch finally which can turn the effects loop on and off, and my chain is a guitar-wireless-wah-Arion tubulator-amp. I'm looking at using that effects loop, possibly for a delay for solo's and whatnot. If you can think of an effect I'd use more, please say so. I am looking for a CHEAP delay, used or new. I like my Arion OD so I thought I'd ask if any delays they make are good. I'll take any suggestions. Remember that this will be Dream Theater style delay solo's, not country or any of that other stuff. Thanks!

EDIT:I came across a Rocktron Short Timer that sounds really nice. How bout this one?

Re: Cheap delay recommendation

behringer has a digital delay comin' out. it should be hella cheap. of course, you might crush it to dust if you hit it too hard. their pedals aren't exactly "tanks."

That won't matter, it'll be back with my amp always on and turned on and off with the effects loop.

Behringer got sued by BOSS over that line of pedals. I don't think we'll be seeing them on the shelves anytime soon.

Re: Cheap delay recommendation

they are already out- they are re-designed (outside, anyway), but they are definately out now.

Re: Cheap delay recommendation

I know that Arion's old analog delay (SAD-1) is considered to be an excellent analog delay that is comparable to the old boss units that are prized now, but has some neat noisemaking capabilities that are nice too. If you listen to the intro or outro to "The Bends" by Radiohead, you can hear the SAD-1 at work. It does some nice self oscillation type stuff that sounds pretty spacey.

I just bought one for myself on Ebay last week and haven't had time to play with it yet. It cost me a mint on Ebay though. I'll probably play with it tonight or tomorrow I think.

Re: Cheap delay recommendation

The best ‘cheap’ delay pedal is an Ibanez DE-7.
Echo and delay from 30ms to 2.6 sec. Has the ability to auto-oscillate.
Only downside is occasional stompswitch reliability.
Found on eBay $50 –65.00

Re: Cheap delay recommendation

There's the new Marshall Echohead, that has 6 different delay types, that's built like a tank and is pretty cheap. Plus you can also connect a "momentary" pedal to an additional socket and get tap tempo.

Re: Cheap delay recommendation

I have bought all my Delay pedals in pawn shops and used for cheap.... I paid almost nothing for a few DOD delays from the mid 90's.... they add noise infront of the preamp for some reason but they are dead quiet in the loop.... but for the $35 Canadian i paid each, they work great and have a full second of delay...

I also grabbed an Ibanez Tone Lock delay used for about $60 Canadian.... good delay but much more dry sounding then the DOD's...

I want a Boss delay but the day i spend $275 Canadian on a single delay is not going to happen anytime soon...
