Cheap Gear Tone!

Re: Cheap Gear Tone!

not bad at all, now to fatten up your tone you could 1 change your pups, 2 change your amp 3 get a boost pedal like the Fulltone Fat boost.

But great job none the less!

Re: Cheap Gear Tone!

Hey now, detuned nonsense is all I do! :blackeye:

I like it; you might not think you're good, but I cannot play outside of my genre at all, so you're better than me at this song! Was this on the bridge pup? I'd say just switch to the neck pup to fatten it up, or just play with your amp settings. I love my 51; I do plan on trying different pups in the future, but the stockers are surprisingly good. Hell, the whole guitar is surprisingly good.

I have two clips of my '51 if you wanna hear it do something different:

1351 (remix)

AK-FG

Keep rockin' that 51!

Re: Cheap Gear Tone!

I recorded it using the neck single coil of the '51. I have a MIA Stratocaster, but the '51 sounds "Strattier" to my ear if that makes any sense. (Imagine that :chairfall )

Thanks for all the positive comments! I appreciate it.

CGord - your clips (compared to my clip) is proof of how versatile the '51 is! Great stuff!

I think I will keep the neck pickup because I love it, but I want to switch the bridge pickup out for a Duncan Distortion. Then I really would have the best of both worlds! I'm going for this tone in the humbucker, a clip I recorded with my buddies PRS knockoff (listed in sig) that has Duncan Designeds that I *assume / figure* are the HB103 distortion set.

Humbucker rhythm tone I like

Re: Cheap Gear Tone!

the simplest thing you can do to fatten up the lead tone is roll back the tone control. youd be amazed how much difference it makes when you take a little high end off

Re: Cheap Gear Tone!

thanks for the tip Jeremy

Anybody know what pickup sounds the most like the unknown 'bucker in my humbucker clip? That recording was sa-weet; tons of low end.

It's a '51, ain't got no tone control. :D

Re: Cheap Gear Tone!

Ya know, I just realized the '51 is my only guitar with no tone control, and it's my favorite to play...dang.

I'll try to roll back the volume a tad to get the highs out
