Cheap guitar recording?

I need a USB interface for recording my guitar. I'm not to worried about my tone, so long as its acceptable. This has to be as cheap as possible. Right now I'm using a webcam microphone and its usless. It needs to have USB, and I'd like the option of plugging my guitar straight into it, or micin a cab and pluggin the mic in if thats possible. I was looking at a guitarport. Any suggestions?

Re: Cheap guitar recording?

The guitar port would be cool, but I can't imagine it sounding very good. I'd personally go for something like a Presonus Firebox or similar M-Audio device.

The guitarport would be the way to go IMO. Aint quite got the same selection of amps as the POD, but its cheap and effective.

I should mention the cheaper the better and I'm not worried about the number of effects or preamps. Something transparent be nice. I just need something cheap so I can record guitar riffs to send to my band members, so as long as you can get the idea of what its meant to sound like, its all good.

Re: Cheap guitar recording?

what kind of budget are you on? I know where to get some brilliant quality Marshall recording mics

Re: Cheap guitar recording?

Cheap as possible. I mean like $300 is really really pushing it.

Re: Cheap guitar recording?

You only really need one but I use because I can capture more sound and I have 2 cabinets

On ebay I found a good deal with mic cables. 7 for the price of one at our local shop.

I recommend getting stands that also have booms.

All the attachments to the stand are included with the mics.

If it's just for demo stuff, don't even bother micing a cabinet. Just get a toneport.

I miked my cab for demos, It was a wise investment now that I'm writing songs.

Just because It's a demo doesn't mean you shouldn't put everything you've got into it.

True in a sense. But you also gotta take into account a budget, ease of use, and effectiveness.

Plus...Jeff here knows pretty well the virtues of putting everything you've got into a demo. Click the link in his sig ;).

If you just need demos for basic ideas...A toneport or guitarport would work brilliantly. Just plug in and go...ya dont have to mess around with positioning a mic, far less cables to deal with, etc, etc.

The mics are well within his range and are actually really good compared with the more expensive ones.

It's all you'll really need for recording just about anything. One thing with condensors is to always put a po filter on them for vocals. Vapour from the mouth goes into the diaphragm and completley takes the edge off the mic otherwise
