cheap mixer or recording console...

Well I'm slowly building up my recording gear -preamp & compressor andnow got a drum machine on the way. I record into an iRiver (works great & 1 LESS computer in my life) and with the machine I need a mixer...but I'm wondering, can you get a good quiet mixer for under $100? if not wondering if I should just get one of the small digital studios. At least then I'll be able to multitrack, but at the cost of extra $$$ when all I really need to do is practice....

Well.. The tascam thing i picked up today is 160 or 210 with a condenser mic. Is a US-122L, it works great. Computer needed though.

Re: cheap mixer or recording console...

gotta be honest here: i really dig my fostex mr-8. gets me away from the computer, records in WAV format, and can interface easily with a computer when i need to edit tracks and/or mix.

Re: cheap mixer or recording console...

Yes that looks extremely useful...dumb question - I assume you can play back a track while recording (so you can record a backing track, then record along to it)?

that's the idea. the main backbone could be drums or a metronome, or you clicking sticks, whatever keeps the beat. it's set up like a typical 4 or 8 track where you just arm the track, hit record, and go. rewind, ff just like a tape deck. it's got an onboard preamp and effects, but they aren't that great.

I have one of these http://www.behringer.com/UB802/index.cfm?lang=ENG it is actually perfect for just using a drum machine/guitar /bass/mic I think it cost about 50 bucks , they have alot of other models , I dont use mine anymore as I use a Line 6 toneport and do it all on computer now, I will probably be puttin mine up on Ebay soon if your interested send me a PM

Peace!

If you are looking for a cheap and simple way to record on a Computer you should look into a Line 6 Toneport UX1 or UX2 AWESOME pro sound amp models and EFX it comes with limited trial recording software, but I use it with Reaper multitrack that you can download for free

much cheaper and better results than a standalone digital studio...yeh I know..but its hooked to a computer :(

Dank - thanks for answering the dumb question! OK that is a definate for later this year. Meanwhile I have a drum machine on the way & a way to mix now, so I can do single takes anyway. Need the practice....

Hey Karma - actually I am trying to avoid the computer...use one all day, like to get away from them at night.

Damn just bought the smaller version of that Beringer on the way home from work, does what I need it to do, lot of features for not so much cash.

I think I read the black one has a few more features for not much more $$ than the red one. I'd say go used; they are really cheap.
