Cheap POS partscaster thread

Re: Cheap POS partscaster thread

Oh, very much so! But I thought of an even sweeter idea for a pickguard today... the other night, I was in the middle of Baltimore city, and I noticed a bunch of "DANGER: HIGH VOLTAGE" signs... I think I might take one of those and cut it down, stick it on a neck-thru strat copy that I make.

That's the name of a really catchy song by the Electric Six (with Jack White).

Yeah..I installed a very interesting piece of active electronics...the whole thing sounds sick. Clips...at some point. I'm pretty busy this weekend.

But my secret electronics! They are the ****.

Tuners: I found a great bargain in tuners! Wilkinson makes a budget line of guitar parts in Korea - not amazing quality, but functional and well built. Anyway, they have these EZ LOK tuners now that have two holes in the peg drilled ninety degrees to each other - you insert the string in one, wrap around, and pull it through the other hole (this locks the string in place). Anyway, these things cost around 26 dollars, and for some nice locking tuners that ain't bad at all. EZ LOKs come in a set of 6 regular height and 4 shorter ones - the two high ones are used for bass strings and the short ones are for anything else. In addition to the string-angle customization this affords, you can choose to string through the upper or lower hole - meaning no string trees. Very cool stuff.

The bottom line: cheap and totally stable tuning. Can't beat it.

I just have to agree with this. It's an amazingly simple idea and they do work great. I got a set of 2 x 3 for an LP copy and string changing has never been easier - the guitar can lay flat on it's back while stringing.

I have sperzel locking on my favorite tele and it still seems like I need three hands to change strings. Not as bad as regular non-locking tuners, but definitely not as easy as these EZ LOKs.

They're nice. They're a little annoying to change a broken string on. I've been breaking a lot of strings (treble ones) lately. Granted I've been doing set-up-ey type stuff, but I think I am going to polish the corners of the hole the string breaks against, to see if that doesn't improve matters a little.

I am not a fan of sperzels. I am intruiged by the automatic-cam locking grovers however.
