The actual SS transistor Fenders don't sound very good. It wasn't until they started using digital modeling that they started getting close to the tube sounds. I use a Tonemaster Deluxe live, and it is fantastic.
I have to disagree. I have two awesome SS fenders my M80 Pro and my Bassman B100. The Fender Roc Pro 1000 combos Yngwie uses get rave reviews. There are a lot of great SS Fenders out there. I will agree the stuff that hits the mainstream like the Frontman series leaves something to be desired.

See - they have those little 8" speakers and I think that is a big reason they sound crappy. Most standard 8" speakers don't sound good.
Looking for at least 10"
Mine was good for being pennies, or at least I thought it was way better than the comparable Marshall MG, but if it's not what you want, fair enough.Yeah...no. That's the solid state we are all talking about that sucks. Or at least isn't good.
Try to find a used Super Champ XD or X2. Those were pretty much a Mustang with a tube poweramp and a 10" speaker. Pretty underrated amps, IMO. Or at least the heads were.
Also look for the Tech 21 Trademark 10 or 30, which look really cool and understated, too.
I would love a 100w 1x12 Katana as a grab-n-go amp.
I was also going to suggest this!
They have a boutique look that would fit nicely into any living space.
While the TM10 only has an 8" speaker, I've read that the TM10 are more sought after for having mojo that TM30 does not. For the purpose of a bedroom amp I don't think 8" speaker is that much worse than a 10". Easier to get the speaker moving at low volume. Smaller enclosure makes it easier to move around and looks cuter.
I wish bought a TM10 when I first started playing, I got a Peavey Rage 158 instead.
i really liked those tm10, didnt like the big ones as much, but they are much more practical
