Cheap Soloists

The inexpensive imported Soloists... how are they? I'm curious because it's my favorite body and neck combination, and I wonder what they're doing with it at different price points. What are those $599 Soloists like with the day-glow colors and the Floyd? The $999 Soloist with the quilt top and a Floyd, etc?

I played this yesterday. In the time I got to spend with it, I thought it was nice for the money.

The X series is pretty damn good. I had one for a couple of months last summer. It's totally worth the money and plays about as well as my Custom Shop Soloist. Sustain isn't as good. That's about it. Other than the parts it's a good deal. Recommended to cure that need to have a neck through Soloist. I eventually gave mine to my nephew when I got my USA.

The main thing my USA does, apart from deliver crunch better than any guitar I've ever played, is throw my sloppy playing and poor note choices back in my face. It's either soul-withering, or an invigorating challenge, depending on my brain chemistry at the time.

What I really want out of life is a supply of black Soloists with trems that I can customize with different pickups, electronics, and strings to take on various identities.

My local MGR had a white one; neck through, Duncan, Floyd 1000 and iverall it felt much like the two Custom Shop Soloists I previously owned. Not as substantial or individualized but a nice playing and looking instrument at (IIRC) $349.99.

I used to love the original version of the last one you posted. I think it was called SLSMG? Regardless, it was slick.

I didn't know they used "nato" on these.

Also I noticed SD doesn't advise the Distortion model with ebony,,,,,,,or they say it's better with rosewood. ?
My experience with nato is that it's not as warm as real hog, more like alder/hog mixed, but not quite as distinct as either one.

Ive been tempted as someone above said to satisfy the itch.. Since the 80s, I thought my dream guitar was a soloist.. BUT.... as I learned a couple years ago, Im not comfy with the neck width.. Like Charvels much better

Ditto, except my first dream guitar back then was the RR1, and then the Soloist, and now I prefer the wider necks.
