Cheapest BF or Tweed alike amp out there?

Even if it's after a couple of mods, maybe even a speaker swap... But what's the cheapest BF or Tweed alike you guys know of out there?
Preferences would be Deluxe and Bassman for Tweed, and Deluxe Reverb alike for BF...

Cheapest blackface wannabe? That's easy! Look for a silverface version of the same model...preferably from '74 or so. Lew

Re: Cheapest BF or Tweed alike amp out there?

Wow that's still at least 600 bucks in the US, pounds around here no..?

Re: Cheapest BF or Tweed alike amp out there?

Lew - doesn't Bruce make a nice tweed clone thats not too expensive?

Re: Cheapest BF or Tweed alike amp out there?

What exactally are you looking for?

You mentioned either a tweed Deluxe a tweed Bassman and a Deluxe Reverb...those are 3 pretty different amps.

As for low cost alternatives to a BF the SF stuff is the way to go...I mean a SF Deluxe Reverb will go for around $900 (ballpark) and that might seem high but it's a lot less that $2300 for a good BF model. I would still say that a early 70's SF Deluxe Reverb with a few choice mods and a good speaker is a far better amp that a BF Deluxe Reverb reissue.

If you want a Tweed Bassman there a million clones and kits that are far less than the real deal and the same goes for a Tweed Deluxe.

Re: Cheapest BF or Tweed alike amp out there?

I just gave those because they give me sounds I think I'd love. And I was thinking sub 300/400 USD myself...SF amps here go for over 900 pounds most for the time. Over 1,400 USD I think.

Get a Hot Rod Deville or Deluxe used. Price is right and the cleans are schwweeet.

+1 They actually sound better then the reissue Twins.

Re: Cheapest BF or Tweed alike amp out there?

That's a good point actually... The Blues Deluxe costs around 600 to 700USD around here though :(

Brother, if you are talking about the hand wired '57 Twin, what ever you are smoking, bring some with you if you come to the SE Jam:chairfall

Re: Cheapest BF or Tweed alike amp out there?

Look for a used tweed Deluxe kit clone---kitbuilders unload them for as little as 300-400 USD on occasion. Anything larger or more complex (Bassman, BF style amps) is going to be more $$$ (more parts, more labor).

Re: Cheapest BF or Tweed alike amp out there?

Can a Blues Junior be modded to sound like a Champ or Princeton? Can the EL84's in a Jr tubes be swapped for 6L6's or 6V6?

Re: Cheapest BF or Tweed alike amp out there?

You'd have to redrill new holes for the larger sockets of the larger bottles and probably redo the WHOLE of the wiring and change a lot of things. They're all very different tubes.

That's probably not a cheap mod then, eh?:laugh2:

Not cheap...not recommended. Pick one or the other...
BTW, for under 500$, there are plenty of 60's-70's Ampegs, Traynors, Univox, Magnatone, etc. that are going relatively cheap for decent quality small tube amps. You are not going to find BF/SF/tweed amps in that range anymore.

No, I was talking about the regular one. I played one of the handwired Twins a few weeks ago, they are a whole different ballgame.

Re: Cheapest BF or Tweed alike amp out there?

ive seen a bunch of old ampegs on ebay uk recently, almost bought one myself. keep an eye out.

I picked up a BF Bandmaster w/o reverb head for under $500 USD. I know that the Bandmasters run cheaper, but if you get a head instead of a combo, and w/o reverb make them a lot cheaper.

Definitely a route worth thinking about! You can probably (if you shop right) pull a used bassman or bandmaster off ebay and snag a cab from avatar cabs and stay around $600, and have a versatile rig to boot because if you wanna change amps later, hey, you already got the cab :)

something like this

Late 70's Bassman
