Cheapo pickup cover okay if it's slotted?

I have a chrome cover with a slotted top, that came on the cheap ceramic humbucker in a Chinese-made Eko. Am 90% sure it's made from lousy quality metal.

Wondering whether it'd be worth the trouble to try it since I have it on hand, or if I should just order one I know will be decent.
Shipping from Phila Luthier would likely cost more than buying the cover itself...

Anyone know if a slotted top will minimize or even eliminate the treble damping from a cheap metal cover?

Just hoping that having the poles and screws both exposed might give clearer sound despite the crummy quality of the covers.

Any opinions?

I guess your cover comes from the HB mounted in an Eko Rock VI RI?

I've offered such a guitar to my brother when he was beginning the instrument but we haven't tinkered with the PU's so I don't know if the cover is good or not.

I was sure that these guitars were made in Czech Republic BTW.

Enough "cheap talk". :-))

Regarding covers, many infos can be found in a work generously shared by Ken Wilmott. See here p.13:

The whole doc might give you a few solutions to try with your cheap Eko cover.

FWIW. :-)

Not a Rock VI; that's a cool looking guitar though. Mine is a 700 like this one:

Might have the same pickup specs but mine was definitely made in China.

Interesting read at that link, thanks. His findings were that the slotted cover was nearly as bad as a solid one, so I guess I'll order a nickel silver one for myself.

It's less than a normal brass cover, but by no means keeps it at a "minimum".

In my case, I could do an A/B with the same '59n with its Duncan nickel cover and a Filtertron-like H-shaped brass cover. And the difference on the highs was pretty evident, even though the customer did prefer the "sweeter" tone from the brass cover at the end. *I* wouldn't put such a cover in a neck p'up in any of my guitars. The bridge position is a whole another story, though. ;)
