Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

Re: Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

It's bizarre how Gibson when faced with money problems they come out with the most stupid guitars ever. Back in 83 it was the Corvus now this the son of Corvus.
PRS, Anderson and the others making classic HB guitars must be happy to see this rubbish.

In the words of tennis veteran, John McEnroe, "You CANNOT be serious!"

Smacks of school woodwork/design/technology course work project.

Re: Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

Aw man. Just when you think there's hope, I look at the pictures.

Re: Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

Wow...

I am continually amazed at how out of touch Gibson is with the market.

Re: Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

I like the body shape and the headstock. I even like the look of the pickups and tailpiece. If the inlays weren't abalone, the burst finish wasn't opaque, the switches weren't colorful and the knobs actually matched, it'd be a guitar I could get behind. I have no use for the robot system but I'll be quick to admit it's a very functional system.

Re: Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

I can't believe people are complaining about the price, when there are Les Paul (pardon me while I snore) reissues that run $8-$10,000+ A Jimmy Page #2 for $15K? There's always that Frankenstein replica for $25,000 when any kid with $1000 and some spray paint could make one.

I'd take one of these any day of the week over any tired attempt to replicate the past for more money. At least Gibson is trying something new.

I'd rather spend the money on materials and craftsmanship in a simple design than a bunch of doohickies and gizmos on something that looks free-hand bandsawed after a long lunch.

Re: Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

It's different, certainly not for everybody. I see it as an instrument for crazed visionaries doing things that are too big to fit on what's come before. Now, I'm not one of them; I like the same simple stuff that's been around for twenty or sixty years.

At least they're trying. That's one more guitar than I've designed in… my entire life, I think.

True enough but to tout it as the greatest thing since sliced bread is a misplay.

Re: Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

My first thought upon seeing that was, "WTF IS THAT???!!!"

That thing is atrocious

Re: Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

For some reason, that "game changer" looks vaguely familiar...
now, where have I seen that before...
an oddly-shaped Gibson guitar with enclosed electronics... hmmm... :scratchch

Wait a minute... it's coming to me...

Oh, yeah, didn't they do something like this 32 years ago?

Re: Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

Yeah I'm with KMC. the body looks fine. The neck and headstock just don't look right.

A hockey stick style would have been cool which would have made it look like an Explorer with mini hums which would be kind of cool. And they could have dropped all those ugly knobs and switch plates and it would be much nicer.

I didn't read up on the specs either but built in FX is a disaster even more than the robot design.

Re: Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

The company is clueless. I would buy a Firebird; but not with any of that other crap.

Re: Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

Hmm . . . I will only post good things about this guitar . . . uh . . . the paint's not bad on this. The colour/effect kinda thing would look cool on on a superstrat maybe . . . The upper fret access looks pretty good. The mini humbuckers are interesting. That is all.

Re: Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

It seems no one at Gibson got the memo that most of us players are pretty traditional/conservative in our instruments and amps.
Sure, we like new toys and gadgets, but the majority of players gravitate toward the old standards, by which everything else is judged.
Proving once again, that Gibson is way out of touch. Instead of filling the market with proven designs, they feel that they should dictate what we want- kinda like the music industry as a whole has done for years.

Re: Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

I think Les Paul himself would have dug it. He didn't even use Standards or Customs, and he loved gadgets on his guitar- so in the spirit of the real LP, it works.
I think, however, other companies do the 'futuristic' thing better. Look at the Adrian Belew Parker Fly. Or the Variax.
I liked the expression/compression effects on the old ES Artists, so there is a little bit of the history there.

Yep and just like then they will cut their losses in two years time shoehorning the left over electronics into a Les Paul.

Re: Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

Are we sure that Gibson haven't got their holidays all in a muddle and are combining April Fools and Halloween in some sort of horrific joke?

(you know the more Apple tries to correct Gibson as Gibbon the more I think it's right. However in this case a Hylobatidae could design something a whole lot better.)

:fing2: Hit it right on the head.

Yes, and just like then, they have their hands on a once-proud synth company (Moog then; Oberheim now). Just like then, they ignored both tradition and market demands to push things that weren't so well-received (Spirit and RD Artist then; Robot guitars and perhaps Firebird X now).

Do you wonder why they've limited production to just a few thousand? Could it be that they already know only a few OCD collectors who have to have everything with a Gibson name on it are going to bother buying it?

Re: Check out Gibson's so-called "Game Changer"...

LOL... "interesting" guitar.

Maybe Gibson ought to just stick to its bread and butter stuff.

Another thing... two dealers in my area gave-up/lost their Gibson dealerships because Gibson is SO demanding in terms of how much stock they must sell and keep on-hand. SO basically, as far as I know -- there is NO REAL Gibson dealer in my state (MT). Which is ironic, because the Gibson Montana factory is within a few miles of one of the dealers. They do have some Gibson acoustics in there (Music Villa), but have to consign them from Gibson. They used to keep a huge, beautiful selection of LPs in there, but now nothing. PRS pulled this crap years ago and it didn't get them anywhere. So they're back in BOTH shops that Gibson is now out of. Not too impressed with Gibson's corporate business philosophies...
