All who loves shred guitar should check out Michael Angelo Batio's website:
http://www.angelo.com/html/mp3___video.html.
There s a video called "Speed Lives" on top of the page.
This guy can play as good right or left handed and even plays both at a double neck guitar using capos!!
Maybe old news to some of you, but it amazed me.
BTW:in the clip, he plays "normal", meaning not on the double neck.
But check it out if not heared of...

Re: Check out Michael Angelo Batio!!

i'm not too fond of his playing.

I agree on that one Davey, some guitar magazine described him as "More machine than man", and i think that's well described. Guess they too missed the emotion in his playing...

Re: Check out Michael Angelo Batio!!

indeed

if you want sheer speed i'd say he's your man hehe

What's up with him playing 3 different guitars on that song?

That vid is taken from his educative video speed kills, and in that video he instructs that song part by part, using different guitars (because of his endorsement with Dean).
BTW, it's not my opinion that he does not play without feeling, but i miss something there to call him my absolute favorite.

Re: Check out Michael Angelo Batio!!

i didnt say he's playing with no feeling. just that he lacks that certain something. i havent heard any of his slower stuff to be precise and havent really dug into any of his songs excessively. and he's a little bit too fast for my liking also.

he is an amazing musician.. and what he does with his left hand around the fretboard is really alien like.. but i just cant bring myself to listen to pretty much any virtuoso for that matter.. i cant listen to vai, i can only listen to a couple of song by satch and malmsteen, batio is right out of the question... now, videos are a totaly different matter, i enjoy looking and listening then. it gives the music the extra depthness, which you cant see while just listening..... i hope you get what i'm saying. while watching, even batio is cool LOL

and he seriously needs a new haircut damnit :laugh2:

Ya know, I love watching all the vids of the master shredders. Geez I wish I had 1/10 of the talent they do, but I get more so much more enjoyment & sheer pleasure outta watching B.B. squezze a note out of Lucille or watching Stevie blow my mind in El Macambo. Shred is certainly a talent that I am envious of and I have no disrespect for what these players have accomplished, but the sheer heart & soul of mucical expression seems to be sacrificed for speed & technicality. Others may not feel that way & I totally respect that, where a picture can speak a thousand words, I feel one note can do the same. Good thing there's room for all of us.

Peace,

Darrin

His slower stuff is really impressive. A lot more people would dig him more if he balanced out his ungodly super shred and super sweet melodic work. I think speed is mainly what he's going for though anyway. Didn't he make a song that was a direct challenge to Yngwie?

Watching MA play is like watching a shark -- just a cold killing machine.
I have absolutely no emotional attachment to his playing aside from 'wow.'
That being said, I love his guitar selection in this video, his tone is excellent, and MAN ... this is one of the shreddiest shreds that ever shredded.

You sure its not B.R.O for Bach Rip Off ?
Unless theres YRO also, but ones definitly BRO

Re: Check out Michael Angelo Batio!!

He sure has some awesome skills on the guitar. However, his music just doesn't really cut it for me. I feel as though everything he does is focused around the most techincal/fast part of the song. I don't really find him very inspiring or creative.

Shredding is fun but when it's done for the sake of "look at me shred" (IMO!) it gets boring quickly. Other people love that style of playing, which is cool. Variety is important.

I still have a great amount of respect for the man though.

Re: Check out Michael Angelo Batio!!

I have a great Michael Angelo story that pretty much sums it all up...

One night back in about 88 or 89 I was at a club (Akron Agora) checking out Nitro his old band.. I was with a buddy of mine who went up to him after his set and said, "Great Job man your awesome",, or something along those lines. Angelo says 'I KNOW" and walks away without so much as offering a smile or handshake.
That pretty muh sums it up for me.

Anyone who thinks this guy smokes Yngwie or Gilbert is either deaf or just uninformed. Yngwie can play cirles around this guy and with tons of feel and blues sensibility mixed in. Gilberts licks are twice as difficult and just as fast. Angelo's 2 string arpeggios are much easier to play fast than the other guys.

Angelo has no writing or compositional skillz at all either, this clip sounds like the Top Gun soundtrack from 1986. LAME.

Check out a DiMeola record. Hes faster and cleaner on acoustic.

Done with my rant,, SORRY.
