Check Out The New Tone Chart

Re: Check Out The New Tone Chart

Outstanding. Love it. My only criticism, and its very minor, is that it would be nice, in time, to neaten up some of the columns. For example, the word "Neck" should be indented one space, so the colons line up. Also, the colon should come right after the word, no space.

Like I said - minor. Great job.

He was way too busy as a gear review-guy to get the soldering iron back out and fire up the studio to make clips of the new pickups.
Until now....
Announcement forthcoming.

Does that mean that he now has time?

Re: Check Out The New Tone Chart

Could you make the chart a bit more compact in any way? (read: Use smaller fonts)... It would be easier to overview all the buckers at once for example and I think the size you are using atm is a bit large anyway ha?!

Re: Check Out The New Tone Chart

Boy, do these last two posts contradict each other or what? :laugh2:

We didn't have access to the guy who produced and recorded the original sound clips back in the mid-'90s. He was an artist who joined a touring band. Then he settled in to a life as the editor of Frets magazine and a frequent contributor to Guitar Player. He was way too busy as a gear review-guy to get the soldering iron back out and fire up the studio to make clips of the new pickups.

Until now....

Announcement forthcoming.

A few of the more common CS pickups would be cool, too (Iommo, ´78, Diablo...) ;)

Re: Check Out The New Tone Chart

The colors are horrible but otherwise it looks good. I would still like some sort of sort feature to compare a few models right up against each other.

edit: add the Mustaine Humbuckers to the chart!!!

Overall nice but I never understood what pro vs player means?

I think it has something to do with the popularity.... I think "Players" are the more popular selections...

Re: Check Out The New Tone Chart

much better than the pdf...i don't like the icons though- an (ice?) cube for 'moderate'? so the only 2 choices are 'moderate' and 'hot'? no 'low'?
Perhaps make up an 'output scale' graded from 1-5?

and i agree that the Player's Pick/Pro Shop is silly...everyone who looks at this is a player. I don't think people are looking at this and thinking 'oh, *Players* use this pickup, so I guess I will get one too'.
List the retail price. It will separate the Pro/Player thing. Some things cost more than others- besides, Pro's use more Player's pickups than Pros. (confusing aint it?).
Maybe instead of a 'compare tone' link, just a check box, and then we can check off what we want before going to the compare page.
