Re: check out what i got from the FedEx guy today!

I always thought how amazing it is that when everything is soldered together and says marshall on it it goes for 1000bucks more

Re: check out what i got from the FedEx guy today!

i've been wanting to try one of these kit amps for a long time now... do they come with complete instructions on where to solder everything so a new guy like me could get one together?

Re: check out what i got from the FedEx guy today!

Too cool. A fawn colored fullsize plexi headshell holding an 18W Marshall?

If it sounds as good or better than the 18W Marshall head, I want one. I love playing a strat through a dimed 18 watter. So juicy and toneful!

How much; if you don't mind me asking?

Unfortunatly they do not come with any instructions. You can download the layout and schematic from their website as well as ask all the questions you can think of on the Ted's forum. But if you ask for help on 18watt.com don't mention that it's a Weber as they had a huge falling out last year that involved lawyers. Weber products are a forbidden subject. That said, the Weber forum is quite helpful.

bingo. the only thing it comes with is an invoice. but as was said above, schematics and component layouts are available on the website and from what i've read through on the forum, it seems to be pretty helpful. ted himself even posts on there to answer people's questions.

all of the weber kits have been going for 10% off until the end of july, so i think it came out to be $460 shipped to my door. i had maybe a 3 week turnaround on it, which was great in my book considering that all the cabinets are handbuilt as they are ordered. the construction of the headshell seems to be really solid too.

it's late, and i just got back from a long night of partying with the guys, but i think it's time to drop the turret board into the chassis right now...if i stay up working on this thing until the sun comes up, i can still sleep my 8 hours before work tomorrow :beerchug:

thanks for the info....

Re: check out what i got from the FedEx guy today!

IIRC Trinity Amps 18 Watt kits come with much better transformers, etc. However, add in their head cab and it costs $595. Stephen at Trinity has a great reputation for support and his forum is extremely friendly and helpful.

Not knocking Weber, but you do get what you pay for...

i still think my wiring can be a little neater, but it's sounding great and it isn't terribly noisy, so i think i'll leave it be. totally nails the old school AC/DC tone...the volume has to be cranked all the way up though :D .

i'm waiting until tomorrow to really get more aquainted with it, as it's 2:00 AM right now and it's a rather loud amp.

now i gotta start thinking about adding a bias pot and i think i'll be set

Re: check out what i got from the FedEx guy today!

Hey bro, that looks great! I've always wanted to build a amp kit, but alas I'm not good with wiring.....or really with anything wire or string related, I almost hung myself trying to take the string off a bakery box.

Re: check out what i got from the FedEx guy today!

That looks sweet :-8

Man, you don't waste any time with your projects do you? Takes me forever to get something like that done...

Re: check out what i got from the FedEx guy today!

Sweet. And I agree on the speed thing, I've got half finished projects all over the place!

Re: check out what i got from the FedEx guy today!

that looks awesome, and it matches my cab! i might have to look into picking one of these up

Re: check out what i got from the FedEx guy today!

Which part is the part that can kill you? The one you can't touch?

Re: check out what i got from the FedEx guy today!

Great job! That is amazing for the cash! I can't take eyes off of it!:eyecrazy:

Re: check out what i got from the FedEx guy today!

It isn't just one part. The capacitors in the power rail filter the power supply to provide "clean" DC, but they also store potentially lethal voltage/current. It's relatively easy to drain the filter caps and test with your DMM to be certain it's safe before you touch anything inside an amp. If you have a fixed bias amp, there's another filter cap just for the bias supply that is separate and also needs to be drained.
