Check this out - 74 strat w/72 neck $2800

Re: Check this out - 74 strat w/72 neck $2800

I'de never pay that much for a 70's Strat. Esspecially one with a body thats been Refinished, has Non-original pickups, Has been routed for a humbucker (not visiable, but still), had a refret...etc...

but then again I don't like strats...

I think it's a gorgeous guitar, and though I don't know the value of old strats at all (I know the approximate value of old Gibsons very well, not Fenders though), it's a cool guitar. I don't know if I'd pay that much, but it looks like a helluva player.

nice, but that's a lot of money. i would rather get the fender closet pro or malmsteen strat for half the price. you going to bid?

I am thinking about it. A 72 neck alone would be $1500. An original 72-74 strat would be in the $6-7000 range. So $2800 for a bigger hole in the body seems cool to me.

I always wanted a 60's or 70's strat. The 60's are way to expensive and so are the 70's. So this looks like a good trade off for someone who has to have a 70's strat. But because you can get a 60th anniversary american deluxe for under $1000 I am torn.

I wish I didn't see the damm thing...

Most Strats I've played have reminded me of just about every other Strat I've played. That's why they're perfect. I bet you could find a better deal on a nice Strat than $2000.

Just get the 60th anniversary one. My tele rocks so much.

Eh...possibly.

The thing about 70's Strats is that they're still relatively affordable to mere mortals. The price tag is nowhere near what 60's and 50's Strats are.

And not all of them are dogs. The lightest most resonant Strat I've ever played I own, and it's a '73.

For that sort of money in ten years it will likely be an excellent deal.

This is the best point, and one I was thinking of. No matter what you pay, in 10-20 years it'll be worth more. The only recommendation would be to find a 1974 neck to go along with it. The 72 neck will probably pay for most of the 74 neck, if not all of it. But it'll pay you back a lot to have an all original (besides pups) '74 Strat.

Looks just like my Malmsteen Strat that I bought for $900 used. I wouldn't trade my Malmsteen for it.

The difference in years isn't always a deal-breaker as long as it's as it was when it left the factory. Fender was notorious for stockpiling parts and then doing assembly based on what was there. This is kind of a known and accepted practice.

The body is a re-fin....

As an investment piece, probably not a good choice. But as one that you can play and play out with and enjoy, certainly.

Re: Check this out - 74 strat w/72 neck $2800

It struck me as something I can play without worrying about damaging. $2800 is a lot of money but it is not $10,000!!

Anyways, I am passing on it. I just went to GC and found a 60th anni amer deluxe in ash with rosewood board that just smoked. Man the s-1 thing works really nicely the guitar is so versatile.

Anyways in the end I decided that I will save and pick up an all original early 70's strat in the hopefully short future.

Re: Check this out - 74 strat w/72 neck $2800

BTW - the GC said the amer deluxe above was $1150 out the door with no case, they had it listed for $1299.
