Looks great! I've been seeing hints dropped on this from the EB board for some time now. From what I understand they heat the wood up to a few hundred degrees in a kiln for a certain amount of time and it causes the leftover sap in the wood to carmelize. I also saw a prototype Axis with a Roasted maple neck and top and it looked stunning.

Re: Check this out from Ernie Ball - Roasted Maple Necks.

Didn't Jackson do this back in the 80's?

Re: Check this out from Ernie Ball - Roasted Maple Necks.

Suhr was the first one to do that as far as I know

Re: Check this out from Ernie Ball - Roasted Maple Necks.

Really now! I wasn't aware that other companies had done this before.

Re: Check this out from Ernie Ball - Roasted Maple Necks.

I wonder if they can do the fretboards like that.

It doesn't come out as much on the necks due to them being unfinished but it does work.

Re: Check this out from Ernie Ball - Roasted Maple Necks.

That's cool as hell lookin on the fretboard.

Re: Check this out from Ernie Ball - Roasted Maple Necks.

That's cool, but I've been wishing I would hit the lottery for a while so I could get one of the Albert Lee HH with the rosewood neck. The surf green with the dark rosewood neck just does something for me.

Re: Check this out from Ernie Ball - Roasted Maple Necks.

So what you're saying is I can finally use my oven for something?

Re: Check this out from Ernie Ball - Roasted Maple Necks.

In essence this is what PRS does to their necks as well.

Re: Check this out from Ernie Ball - Roasted Maple Necks.

WANT.

And ya know what? I just happened to come into a maple fretboard and neck Johnson tele...I paid 50 bucks for it, so I wouldn't have a problem stripping a finish and roasting it. Any idea on how it's done?

Re: Check this out from Ernie Ball - Roasted Maple Necks.

Suhr was the first I saw doing this, but now several companies it seems. Charvel sent me an email about theirs a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Check this out from Ernie Ball - Roasted Maple Necks.

They look nice.

I have to admit that I was very disappointed when I saw that this thread was not "Check this out from Ernie E!"
