Chorus for this type of sound?

Hey.

I need a Chorus pedal, and I want something that sounds a bit like the one at 3:15 in this clip.

I am both using it with the single coils in the Charvel for MoP and stuff like that, and D-Tuned stuff on the Les PAul.

I tried Boss CH-1, CE-5, Ibanez CS-9. CE-5 seemed the closest, but I dunno which chorus they use now, but in the old days it was a JC120 amp.

Hope you can help.

Thanks.

Re: Chorus for this type of sound?

No you don't need a chorus. Say no to chorus. One day you'll thank me.

Re: Chorus for this type of sound?

Boss CE-2. They're getting pricey these days though. The Boss CH-1 is a good alternative and the effect level control is nice to have.

Re: Chorus for this type of sound?

The CH-1, okay.

CH-1, I didnt really like its sound that much, but I probably EQd it wrong.

Re: Chorus for this type of sound?

There is no EQing it wrong, but what sounds good to you. There's not much of an EQ on it at all other than the hi/lo control along with the level, rate and depth. You gotta play with it and get familiar with it. Don't lay it on too thick though.

Re: Chorus for this type of sound?

I think to get the Metallica chorus/clean tone it has a lot to with their EMG pickups. They have a plucky, almost cardboard like ultra-clean tone that I've never been able to acheive to with passive pickups.

Having a Roland JC-120 or Triaxis & G-major would probably help but since you're after it in single pedal form I don't really have any ideas. The chorus on my Yamaha DG-stomp can do great chorus sounds and is a testament to Yamahas highly praised digital effects. I can get some convincing Metallica chorus tones on it.

The rest of the tone and the pickups aside the chorus it's self comes from a JC-120...that has been a mainstay of Metallica clean/chorus since the begining.

The chorus in a JC-120 pretty much IS a Boss CE-1. CE-1's bring big dollars these days but if you want to get close the CE-2 is the way to go...the CE-2 is mono, where the CE-1 is stereo and the CE-2 does not have the vib setting and doesn't have the ability to get as fast of a rate as the CE-1 but the overall tone is very close. Short of that the newest Boss multi chorus pedal has a CE-1 setting and there are several clones of the CE-1 floating around as well.
