Chorus pedals. Ch-1 or CE-5?

What do ya think? i will be getting one of these two in a few days and am torn between them. I like the MXR one but sounds very similar to the Ce-5 except a little brighter for more money. i have spent some time downloading sound bites and the ce-5 samples sounded the best although i think there was a difference in the way the ch1 and ce5 bytes were recorded. I had thought i wanted the tc electronic chorus /flange but after hearing some clips the sound quality is not any better than anything elese and if you ask me its just really overpriced. The small clone was nice but the boss pedals and the mxr sounded best. What would ya chose between these two and why? Thanks guys!!

personally I prefer the CE2. I have that one on my main board and it smokes the CH1 I have on my other board. That being said.......... The CH1 is an excellent Chorus pedal. I use it more than the CH1 mainly because it is easily replaced in the event I lose it. The CE2 just sounds better to my ears.

I think if you can get hold of a CE-2, its really something I can guarantee..

I have a CH-1 love it! Depends what kind of chorus your going for. I use mine subtly and it works beautifully.

I know it's all to taste and style, but I liked the CE5 much better than the CH-1, because the CE5 was warmer, more organic, and kinda '80s sounding. I thought the CH-1 was weak (ahem, subtle). But I didn't keep either, I got a Maxon CS9Pro instead. Now I might have also considered the Ibanez reissue as well. It's much thicker sounding. But for my tastes the CE5 was superior, and that's why. Hope it helps.

Also, I tried the MXR chorus, and it attempts to sound like a Leslie simulator: the volume fades at the end of the sweep. I tried two of them, that's how they're designed, and you can't turn that feature off, which made it unusable for me.

I own 2 CE-5's.... picked them up for $45 Canadian each used in pawn shops.... i like them a lot

CE-5s are quiet little pedals that can really be tweaked with the high/low filter . . . I think you can get nearly any chorus sound that you need if you play with one for long enough.

I won't be going for any thing too radical. I like a musical sounding setting but witha definate effect on the signal, something spacious. I tend to use a slower chorusing effect. I lik eric johnsons chorus sound but i do not think i need to spend $300 to get a very similar sound. I think much of his clean sound is guitar/amp anyway so the chorusing is just an icing.

The CE5 may get you close to that..... i also like a slow spaceish chorus tone...

I like the CE2. Haven't tried the CE5. If you get a chance, try the Voodoo Labs chorus, too.

I also downloaded clips of that one too. It was nice but honestly the boss clips sounded better. Especially the ce-5 clips. I listened to all these clips from the musicians friend web sight and of course i am taking into account the possible differences in how they may have been recorded, distant vs close miking ect. I think my digitech kicked the bucket and i never did like the chorusing in that anyway plus the fact you are running something in the amps effects loop that also has a preamp don't help the sound either. It just did something undesirable to my tone. I listened to all these clips and the neat thing was when i listened to the ce-5 clip i was like an old familiar friend to my ears. I will use it only for my clean sounds like since much of my clean playing is ringing arppegios so chorusing is an essential ingrediant. I really don't do chorused distortion any more. There was a time whn i did but not now. Yeah i am definatly going for the ce-5 its cost effective and should give me what i want. Now all i will need is a good delay pedal and then i think i will be set for a while. Thanks bros!!!:)

Heres a little tip though, don't go by the clip on the BOSS site alone, the ch-1 sounds mighty thin on that and mine sounds alot more full (I do not know what year mine is from though, I did get it used).

If you are able, try both to see what you like.

I've got a Ch-1 as well, and i'm pleased with the sound of it. I don't even want to mod it. I don't use chorus a lot anyway, and when I do, it is very subtle. If you use it a lot or if you get the real wide chorus sound, it seems to "cheapen" the sound to me.

Rushfan 2112, I can get really close to the chorus sound on "Discovery" from 2112 with my Ch-1.

Of these two my vote goes to the CE-5, however I use an Ibanez CS-9 and love it. To my ears it's got the subtle chorus sound down to a science.

The clips i heard were off of the musicians freind sight. The Ch-1 cips did not sound bad but there was something in the sound of the clips that really caught my attention and it may be an upper mid range quality i heard there but i can tell the clios were recorded differently. Also the filter thing i think seals it for me. Because i have the choice of bright or warm. Thanks guys i really appreciate your help.
