Chris Oliva rig

Re: Chris Oliva rig

Sorry that I won't be of much help, just wanted to say that when I saw him live back in the early 90's (Gutter Ballet tour), he was running through one of the biggest racks I've ever seen. It looked like NASA's mission control room.

The sound he had that night (played a ton of songs off of "Gutter Ballet" and "Hall of the Mountain King") was one of the best heavy guitar sounds I've ever heard. Big, thick, punchy, nice sustain, but very articulate at the same time. It sounded very much like the albums.

Sorry I couldn't really help you, but I think his rig was VERY involved.

Re: Chris Oliva rig

The guys from Savatage always had awesome tone, unfortunately I haven't a clue what they used.

Re: Chris Oliva rig

I think he used Laneys. I seem to remember seing an add with him in guitar player.

Criss Oliva was an unbelievably talented & underrated guitarist.his tone, especially live, was like "Heaven & Hell"...totally mind-blowing!!! i was fortunate enough to have seen him play with Savatage for most of their tours during the mid 80's thru early 90's......for some details-check out www.crissoliva.net -click on "about Criss",then "gear"...Enjoy!!!!

Thank you so much, we had a thread here a while ago about the most underated shreder or something like that, I brought up Chris and nobody said a thing. His solos on the HoMK, Summer's Rain, Gutter Ballet, When the Crowds are Gone, 24 Hours Ago, Sometimes She Flyes are simply masterpieces. I heard that Dave Mustain and Lars are big fans of Savatage maybe the could put a tribute album together with other guys. Anyways, thanks for the website it is great to know that he had same amp that he used all those years and the fact that he was an SD man too. Thanks.
