Chrissie Hynde Telecaster

Re: Chrissie Hynde Telecaster

Kind of like how there's no "James Jamerson P-Bass" sig model, both he and CH used the same guitars anybody else could buy, so it would only be putting a "name" on a totally stock guitar. Or something.

That's the best kind.

All of this ignores the fact that it is the hands, ears and brain of the "name" player that makes their instrument do whatever special thing it does.

Probably, but that's part of the appeal. When you have the same guitar (or pedal, pickup, or amp) that your favorite player uses to play that music and make those sounds, you know that piece of equipment isn't part of the "problem", and you can either move on to blaming the next piece of gear or get down to playing and seeing if you can really do it.

Keep in mind that all this usually isn't immediately obvious to someone just starting out, who has maybe played exactly one guitar (the entry-level model he or she owns), and they know it's different from what the pros and the more advanced kid across the street have. They might not know how different, or in what ways, but they know it's different, and they wonder what they could do with guitar X or Y instead of the one they have.

Some people have strange, difficult journeys in this realm. And we all have to make them ourselves.
