One of the good things about a good sound guy is that everyone sounds great. But if it's a bad sound guy everyone sounds terrrible.

Bad sound guys can be worked with though. A good friend who understands sound and can work with the sound guy will go a long way.

By far the hardest thing about playing with smaller amps is making it so you can hear yourself. Using a stand that tilts the amp towards your head is a good solution. Even in a good-sized room I've found that just putting it up on a milk crate elevates it enough to get a better idea of your sound.

One of these days I'm gonna play a venue that has monitors that are going to be more useful than something to tape a set list to.
