Class 5 owners....

How do they take pedals? Desperately need an amp and have decided on the Class 5. But would like opinions from actual users with a brain. Most curious about things like the Wampler Plexi type drives and the Zen Drive. Thanks for the help guys!!!

Re: Class 5 owners....

I'm using a MXR Classic OD/GT OD/ZW44 (same pedal) which is nice.
My fuzzboxes not so much (must be a combination of using HB's and fuzz).
Sounds a bit mushy. I like video's of single-coils and fuzzboxes through a C5 though.

I can see the MXR Classic OD working great. It's one pedal that really melds nicely with cranked Marshalls.

One pedal that's often overlooked for some reason, and are fairly inexpensive, is the Marshall Gov'nor II. It gives you a lot of control over your gain structure, with a very Marshall-like sound itself. So, throw it on a Class 5, and you can add a higher gain Marshall tone.

Re: Class 5 owners....

Ive got a few clips on the first page over in the T&C forum of my class 5 with pedals. It really really likes the Zvex Distortron(BOR) which turns it into a mini JTM45.

IME it takes pedals very well. Both as a goose, or set for clean and using the pedal as a distortion channel. The speaker in the combo version is a big limitation though. It will fart out big time with some pedals. Id suggest the head or an ext cab for the combo.

Re: Class 5 owners....

The Class 5 loves a Tube Screamer or a Blues Driver to send it to a warm, cozy place I like to call "screaming hell."

Distortion and fuzz pedals? The 5 seems to care less for those. At least mine does.

The pedal I use most consistently with my Class 5 is a Dunlop Crybaby Classic (w/ the Fasel thingy). I've been wondering about an analog delay like a carbon copy.

Great amp. But really, I get my distortion not with a pedal, but with my guitar's volume knob. Marshall wants you to *play* this amp, not just plug into it.

Have fun.

Re: Class 5 owners....

I can see using an OD type pedal in a clean boost mode, but only that. I get to OD so fast with my C5 that I do not need a boost for any playing except lead stuff, if even that. I actually can live quite well doing the volume knob thing. I should add that I use low or medium output pups, and I play crunch tones from Humble Pie to just short of Motorhead.

Always wondered why Marshall owners use boost/distortion/OD pedals.

Now that I own a Marshall, I still wonder.

My Class 5 LOVE pedals . . . just keep the volume at noon or lower.

As soon as the volume goes past the 1 'o clock mark (with hot humbuckers), the dirt of the pedal starts to compete with the amps break up.
It is OK if you only use OD's, but with fuzz, it sounds best (to my ears) at noon.

Atleast mine does ;)

Re: Class 5 owners....

Mine likes fuzz and distortion pedals just fine

But mine is green so it probably sounds better :smokin:

Re: Class 5 owners....

Mine is RED, so it is probably faster :naughty:
