Whats the difference? What class would my TSL602 be? Are there advantages or changes in tone?

Educate me! Thanks!

As the resident Class A pedant, I'll refer you to these threads:

Your TSL is Class AB. Other than the THD Bivalve, I can't think of a non-single-ended (i.e., >1 power tube) amps that is truly Class A. Most builders in recent years have spread confusion, describing their amps as Class A when they actually mean cathode biased.

I don't know if the link is in those threads, but Aiken amps has a couple good discussions of class A amps in their tech section

I have a couple of links to Randall's stuff in the first thread.

Re: Class A and AB amps...

For the super-layman, Class AB is like a boxer using both fists to work a speedbag.
Class A is when he does the final punch, with one right handed blow.
Even Rocky could understand that one.....LOL

yeah, i picked up on those 'quirks' in the boogie write up too ... but i thought that it was a reasonably good beginner treatment of the topic to at least get him started

Re: Class A and AB amps...

actually the univalve is the class A. the Bi-valve will function as a class A/B when driven hard. I just got a univalve and am exploring the intricasies of class A, and I like it.

Re: Class A and AB amps...

The vast majority of true class A amps would have a single output tube, right? What was the first AB amp?
