for a small amp with good sound and overdrive, which do you like? Peavey Classic 20, or Fender Pro Jr.? :smokin:

Re: Classic 20 v. Pro Jr?

I like both.

My bandmate has a classic 20 in his collection. It's great. It reminds me a bit of a marshall 18 watter, and has a pretty good mid-high gain overdrive. I've used one at rehearsals and recording and it works very well up until you max it out and it loses a bit of definition.

The pro jr is less versatile, but sounds great cranked. Much more of a classic fender vibe.

no - good?

I have the crate v3112 which is the 30 watter and I really like it. It has a good clean that is really smooth with the tone tubby speaker. The 15w version is suppose to be really good too. Someone i recently saw got the 3112T for like $475 shipped on ebay new.

I've got the VC2110 (pre-dates the "V" Series). I think it's more versatile as a practice amp than say a BJ or a Pro Junior. The cleans are not a sparkly as the Fenders (it might be better with single coil pups..I dunno), but you can crank it and get some nice high-gain tones. You can pick them up regularly for $200, they come with either a 10" or a 12" speaker (16ohms).

the C20 is well loved among some folks.... The Tube Store guy loves his!!!!

Re: Classic 20 v. Pro Jr?

Several people I know consider the C20 to be the ONLY decent Peavey amp. I personally really like the delta blues amps as well, but that's about it.

The C20 is simple. Difficult circuit to **** up.

Re: Classic 20 v. Pro Jr?

can i get some suggestions on a speaker? i know i'm not going to be able to resist replacing the speaker and the tubes, so i might as well get to it -- no doubt i will get jjs, but what about a speaker? for blues, btw,,,,,

Re: Classic 20 v. Pro Jr?

Tone tubby speakers are good for blues to classic rock it seems.

bob at eurotubes says he had a hard time getting a weber alnico into his classic 20 because of the bell, and that even with mods he's really really close to the tubes - probably not a good idea -- so i'll probably go with a ceramic (my g12h30 sounds great in my classic 30) -- tone tubbies are a good suggestion -- has anyone tried the weber silver 10 ceramic (bob's suggestion)?
