Classic 30 getting new tubes soon.

I think its about time for my C30 to get a new set o' tubes. Its had the originals in for a little over a year and a half and I play it every day at bedroom volumes. It's losing some life and crunch. Also, practicing with a band a couple times a week now for the past 2 weeks so its being turned up pretty high. (metal band) Ok, so I've read its a fixed bias amp, so no need to take it to a tech right? So guys, recommend me some toobs!

Thanks, YJM(sorta)Rocks(but he's fat and old now):bigok:

El84

Can't cost a whole lot either. Decent but reasonable.
Currently the power tubes are sovteks and the pre tubes are e. harmonix.
The power tubes say 40 12 on them and the pre amp tubes say 05 05. Is this a model or series number or something?

Peavey Classic 30. Is it the tweed version?

Once I replaced the stock tubes with JJ and NOS RCA and Phillips and replaced the speaker with a Celestion Vintage 30, that amp really came alive. It was hard to believe it was the same amp.
so, I'd say get some JJ 12AX7's and NOS EL-84's (if you can either find them and afford them), or go with JJ EL-84's too.
And yes the amp is fixed bias, so no need to send it to a tech. Not unless you want to alter the circuits to change the bias, which some do in order to run the tubes a little hotter.
Something I never felt the need to do since my Classic 30 always sounded good to me. Once I retubed it, anyway.

JJ's make Peavey's much better. My Peavey Classic 20 sounded so much better when I put the JJ's in there....
