Classic 30 vs Blues Junior

Both of these amps fit in my price range and have all the features I want. I play blues/rock/funk and will be mostly playing at home. I hope to get some jams in in the future so it needs to be loud enough for that. Which amp would you get if you were in my position, and why?

(About the blues junior not having overdrive...i might get a ts9 to help that out.)

My dad has a blues junior and its alot of fun to play. It has a really nice break up. I think you'll find the people here evenly divided.

I've played both. Owned a Classic 30 and have played through a friend's Blues Jr. I never could get the Blues Jr to give me what I wanted, but I was able to dial-in the Classic 30 right away. It has a slightly larger cabinet which gives it a little fuller sound IMO.

I'd buy another Classic 30 without hesitation.

My choice would be the Blues Jr. I have compared both amps, I see what you guys may like in the Peavey, but I'm a Fender man.
And at $100 cheaper on musicians friend and cheaper in my favorite guitar shop... I have to go with the Blues Jr., A great external Fuzz pedal would make it a total classic rock/blues machine.

I love my Classic 30. Once you "season it to taste" with differant tubes and a speaker change you'll be highly surprised as to what you can get out of it. A VERY underrated amp, IMHO.

It's a pretty loud 15 watts, i can jam with my hard hitting drummer and hear myself just fine...

I think the Classic 30 is a better quality amp.
The Reverb on the Blues Jr does not sound
like a Fender Reverb should.

I love the Classic 30! Very nice amp and it can do many styles of playing. The tone only gets better when you do mods like a speaker change and tube change.

Well I bought the Classic 30 but have not been enjoying it as much as I should be. The reasons for this is that it is louder (feedback wise) that I thought it would/should be. Also, I'm having trouble dialing in the EQ to where I like it.

So, how versatile is the blues junior? Is it strictly a blues amp with a blues tone? Or can you play jazz/funk on it too?

Never played the Classic 30. Own the Blues Jr. I love the Jr. Does everything I want it to, jazz, funk, blues. Mind you, a speaker swap & new tubes made it the amp I love. BTW (JJ tubes, Celestion V30).

Same here, except Electro Harmonix tubes and a Weber Blue Dog speaker.

The reverb is lame on the Blues Jr. The "Fat" switch is fairly useless IMHO.

With either amp, a Weber Mini-Mass attenuator (or similar box) will make it possible to get power tube distortion without blasting out your eardrums/talking to the police/enraging family members/etc. The Blues Jr. can get darn loud, especially with a better than stock speaker.

Love my Classic 30. Of course, like others, did a speaker change and it was night and day. Never use the boost channel, I have a lot of pedals and the tone is insane. Jeckyl and Hyde with a MXR 10 band Eq for the crunch and MXR Micro Amp for lead boost (used to use the TS9 but J & H is better). Plenty loud for avegage size clubs, never been past 3. I added an extention cab (both Celestions) and have been very pleased with my amp. Stil have the stock tubes, what do you C30 guys replace with?
I love Fender, had Twins, BandMaster, Deluxe Reverb.....but my little Champ keeps me happy if I jones for da Fender vibe.

I'd suggest a Carvin Nomad - $499 or $599 for the Bel Air (double speaker, two vintage 30s).

I've played a Classic 30, I have found my place with a modded Bel-Air recently.

Again, for what you describe, I'd strongly suggest the Carvin Vintage series.
