Classic blues cover - Thrill Is Gone

Hiya! Al C and I wanted to do something together for quite a while. We finally managed to find time, and this is the result.
:alcoholic

We had a ton of fun doing it. Al's a great guy really knows his stuff. He used the way-cool amp his brother built, that thing is a monster!

Anyway, here's how the song lays out,

Al C does the intro, first verse fills, fourth verse fills and first outro solo.

ALF does the second verse, solo, third verse, and last outro solo.

We hope you enjoy "The Thrill Is Gone" :werd:

Re: Classic blues cover - Thrill Is Gone

When ALF says we finally got around to it he isn't kidding. We first talked about it Nov 1.
Rid doesn't know it yet but we have to thank him for the backing track we used, one of the great backing tracks he posted before. Great vocals, no idea who he is but heck sounds like BB to me.
I had the new amp and was itching to try it out. All my parts are guitar>amp>mic>board. No pedals were injured in this project (at least by me anyway :) ).
ALF what did you use??

Re: Classic blues cover - Thrill Is Gone

Oh yeah, gear! I used my Epi ES-295 for the first parts, and my JV Strat for the last solo. If you listen close, you can hear little Bigsby wiggle during the verses :)

The amp was a J-Station throughout. I used a Bluesbreaker sim I put together. The Epi part is actually the J running into the power amp of my TM10 and I miced the speaker. The Strat was recorded direct from the J to my PC.

Yeah! B.B. King! That's awesome, guys. This kinda digs deep for me because it's the first B.B. King song I've ever heard and I think he's coming to town later this month :) Very NICE!

Re: Classic blues cover - Thrill Is Gone

Awesome!!! I love this kind of blues and it means a lot to me! Thank you so much for sharing!!!! :cool3:

Re: Classic blues cover - Thrill Is Gone

I never did say what I used: All guitars PRS brazilizian Santana.
Intro, blackface preamp/EL34 power
1st verse, Vox preamp/EL34 power
4th verse, vintage marshall preamp/ 6V6's
1st outro solo, bassman preamp/6L6's

Very cool ALF... I'm really getting into the blues, and this is too cool. Saw BB in 2003 in Montreal. A legend really.

Your playing is amazing, both of you. Keep sharing guys!

Re: Classic blues cover - Thrill Is Gone

Thanks guys! It was great fun making this with Al. I love his playing and the tone he gets out of that custom amp. His intro blows me away every time!

Ah sweet stuff....
You guys put that backtrack to good use:)
Thank you for sharing it Rid. It is one of several that I "borrowed" from your site when you posted them. Having vocals as good as on that track help a project immensely. I had first suggested to ALF that we do "Roadhouse Blues" but that would have required finding a vocalist.

Thanks ALF. I must admit I was a bit nervous about doing a collaboration with you. Always enjoy your clips and always feel a bit insecure about my own playing. Man I hear some of these young guys tear up the place and it is just something I will never be able to do. Glad you liked it. We will need to try something else sometimes. Not too fast.

Thanks T4D, good to hear from you.
I would like to add that someone identified the singer as a guy named Scott Kail. Apparently the backing track originated on the Line 6 Guitar Port site. ALways want to give credit where credit is due. Especially when I guy can sing like him!!

Re: Classic blues cover - Thrill Is Gone

I missed this too, my bad.

Excellent track guys, excellent. One of the best ever posted here.

Ya, me and Al should do something again sometime. Gotta maintain the old guy presence!!
