Classic cover pickups

Hi everybody!
I have a sh59/sh11 setup in my electric guitar and I'd like to keep this sound setup with a "lespaul" look.
Solution 1 : Buying 2 pickup covers and putting them over my current pickups, but then will they sound the same as the do now? Do I need any extra stuff to do this correctly?
Solution 2 : Buying 2 new pickups. I found sh59 nickel covered, but there's no way to find sh11 nickel covered in any of the online stores I visited!! Do you know any online store in which I can buy these?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Classic cover pickups

If you buy two new pickups with the covers added at the Duncan Factory, both will be wax potted and you'll have no issues with microphonics or squeeling.

If you put them on yourself, you'll need to add a piece of 1/2" masking tape inside the cover. Add it in the area that is not drilled out for the polepieces.
Clamp it on tightly and then solder it on. The tape inside the cover will help prevent the cover from resonating and creating squeeling problems if you're standing right in front of a loud amp and playing loud.

The tone is differant. Without covers, I think a pickup has more "kiss" to the tone...more presence. With covers, I think the tone is slightly warmer.

The diff is subtle and some claim they don't hear any difference...but there IS a difference. :laugh2:
