Classic Stack for Strat?

On a total impulse, I just bought a USA Strat that's been outfitted with Classic Stacks in all 3 positions. I am picking it up today :arms: :banana:

I didn't even know they were stacks at the time - it wasn't until after I paid for it that I had their tech check "under the hood" while he was doing the set-up. In the store they sounded great - very nice "vintage-y" tone.

One thing I did notice is that the previous owner had jacked the pickups up a lot higher than I like them to be (I like them fairly low to keep them out of the way of my picking). Could this be because the stacks don't have enough output? I have heard this comment about them in the past.

Has anyone tried these? What are your thoughts? Am I going to lose a lot of tone if I lower the pickups?

I just had a Classic Stack in the middle of my Strat. I loved it. I'll have to withhold comment on whether or not you're a beautiful snowflake. :laugh2:

The only reason I traded it off is that I'm trying different "middle" pups in my Strat. I'm very tempted to get the 3-pup set that Theodie has in the Trading Post.

They're nice, smooth, warm pups. Somewhat low output, but I prefer that sometimes.

Ooh ... exciting!

I'm not opposed to low output, so long as the tone is good, and that's more or less what I was looking for with this guitar. My number one Strat has plenty of output for most things, and I was looking for more of a vintage voice for this one.

As for the guitar itself, Fender really did an excellent job on this one. I am super impressed. I will post pics in the Guitar Shop when I am able to.

I have a classic stack in the middle of my strat, and it works fine with the SM1 mini hum in the neck, and an overwound classic stack/twangbanger hybrid in the bridge. Both of which are higher output pickups, compared to stock strat.

i have a pair of classic stacks in a strat with no middle pup. they sound great, warm stratty tone. they arent high output which is why they might be so close to the strings. you can back them off and see what happens if you like, youll lose a little output and maybe add a little brightness. i keep mine fairly low and im very pleased

They're probably close because they are extra tall and the person who installed it didnt have longer screws so they pushed it up until the screws reached the base of the pickups.Thats what I just found installing some myself.
