The Vintage Rails are basically the same, tone-wise, as theDucks....I have the Ducks in my main guitar I record with and I'll echo what the others have said regarding them being low output (i.e: vintage flavoured) but quite bright. I switched to 250k pots to tame a little of the icepickiness of them and they turned out great. That said, however, I'd suggest the VR's as the signal dropout between pole pieces when bending, or, if they don't line up correctly with your strings, is sometimes annoying....

Hi guys, i am sort of in a similar situation. I want to change the pickups for my Fat Strat and am between Vintage Rails, and Classic Stack Plus. My question is: do the Classic Stack PLus also loose volume when you bend the strings; just like the Duckbuckers do?

no, they wont have drop off like ducks ... they have much larger pole pieces than the ducks ... they will respond much more like regular strat pups ... the CS+ pups are really happenin indeed ... i think i am gonna load up a pickguard with a set of them in order to swap in and out with the stock EJ strat pups

I have the Stack + in my strat. I started out with set of 3, now have convereted it to

CS+ in neck
CS+ (b) in middle
Lil 59(b) in bridge

The classic strat + are great pickups.

I have a duckbucker. The qualms people have with drop off is something I've had to deal with also. I think the duckbucker was made to make the Vintage Rails more punchy like a real single coil is. Problem was, that making it punchy also made it way more sensitive to drop offs. Great sounding pickup and it works well enough, but if your strings don't align well with it, you won't be all that happy with it. I too would go with the vintage rails if given the opportunity to swap them.

I wanted to ask... When talking bout the classic stack, are you folks talking bout the classic stack plus or the older classic stack? Are the older ones still available from SD?

Thank guys for your info. Now i have to decide between these two configurations for my fat strat to go with:

1
SH-1B 59 (bridge)
SVR-1 Vintage Rails (middle)
Antiquity Strat Texas Hot (neck)

2
JB (bridge)
Classic Stack Plus (middle)
Classic Stack Plus (neck)

Now that i know that the CS + do not loose sound while bending strings, i think i might go with option 2.

Will let you know how it works out.

if you look at the dates it should be easier to tell. i dont think the older ones are available but i tracked down a pair of them before they disappeared. the cs+ is a great pup and sounds fantastic but i also like the alnico II warmer strat tone

I'm also looking for a single coil sound in my strat H-S-S. I have the 59 full size in the bridge. I tried a duckbucker in the neck and the output was significantly less than the bridge humbucker. Will the Vintage Rails have more output than the duckbucker?

What about a lil 59er in the bridge with a classic stack plus in the middle and neck? Any opinions on that setup for classic rock?

If you notice above...thats what I have in my setup....

I put a CS+ bridge in the middle...

As an added touch, I put a push/pull pot in to turn bridge on at anytime.

I don't have any issues with mine, but it is the bridge and obviously less string movement. But from what I've heard the lil 59 is killer in the neck position, so I guess that would speak for itself then.

The reason the duckbucker has the drop off, is the 3 and 3 layout of the screws. Whereas with the others, you get 2 screws per string like a traditional bucker
