Re: Classic Van Halen - Which Bucker?

The Custom has a ceramin mag, the Custom Custom has a A2 mag. The CC is also slightly hotter.

Re: Classic Van Halen - Which Bucker?

The difference between a CC and Custom is the magnet. The coils have the same winds.

For classic VH, meaning the first couple of albums, the best floor production model I'd say is the 59, then the CC. The CC is better for Fair Warning onwards. Of course, a cranked Marshall is also required. :D

Merry Christmas!

The 59b/custom Hybrid does it alot better than the stock 59B...Trust me on this one!

I'm sure it does but it's not a production floor model which is what he asked for.

True, but if a guy is looking for that EVH tone it's still a great idea to throw it out there! There are several people on the forums capable of making this pickup....Since we're all here to help,it's quite natural for me to throw that out there....No harm done on my part and I'm always here to help...:)

I've tryed most of the SD line, but this pickup is pretty amazing...For me it is anyway..There a quite a few of us using this pickup and I normally wouldn't put any info out to somebody unless it was worth mentioning....

I just realized the question was asked by a Duncan dealer. Jeez, with the luxury of having all those pickups sitting there, you could spend a day NAILING the Van Halen sound with your Kramer and Marshall. The 59, C-5, CC.....pretty much all of them will get you the right tone with a EVH Kramer and the right amp.

Yeah, and there's a cost associated with doing so :) Additionally, I'm not to proud to ask for help from fellow forum bros who may have already tackled the issue.

You're always on the right track asking somebody else for their prior gear experiences...:13:

I agree! No need to reinvent the wheel :)

Re: Classic Van Halen - Which Bucker?

GEARJONESER has too much nice gear so he can try anything and everything in his own studio. LOL, some of us are stuck with much less than you - YOU LUCKY SON OF A GUN! He's right, you can nail EVH with many ideas and combinations.

Re: Classic Van Halen - Which Bucker?

I wasn't trying to come off snooty. The question was a valid one, but I always thought it'd be easy for a dealer to try out new pickups. Is it unethical to peel the tape off a pickup box, install it to hear it, then snip off the centimeter of stripped lead, wipe some wax in the leg holes, and put it back in the box? That's basically the scenario for any pickup exchanged or returned, I'm assuming. As long as it's still in dead mint condition.

I'm not suggesting it's the best thing for a dealer to do with new stock, but it seems feasible, just to hear some of the pickups you sell.

No offense taken at all bro :) Nah, I wouldn't try out a pup, then sell it as new even if I could bring it back to as new condition. It's just not the right thing to do IMHO :newangel: If I try something out and don't care for it, I discount it and sell it as used, so it can get a bit expensive. I've had the pleasure of trying alot of pickups, but of course not all of them. I'm gonna give the Custom Custom TB a shot before I order a 78' Model EVH. Hopefully it fits the bill.

That's very noble and honest Matt...
