Classic Vibe Tele

My friends Tele is sitting in my basement. Now, it plays great. And it sounds great. But I'm really surprised when I play mine, the note definition is far more pronounced. For the money, I think the Classic Vibe is a decent guitar. So if it were mine I'd change the pickups. I already have a Fender Tex-Mex Tele bridge pickup, what Duncan would go well with it. (Yes, I'm totally willing to change my friends pickups to something he can keep if he likes them.)

Re: Classic Vibe Tele

I put a Quarter Pound in the bridge position, and I love it.
Hotter than the stock, the crunch is worth it in my rig.
Will post Soundclouds when I can.

Re: Classic Vibe Tele

What size and shape is the neck pickup cavity on your Telecaster? Also, which model do you have?

Re: Classic Vibe Tele

So, a grand total of two Squier CV Telecasters currently in your basement.

Re: Classic Vibe Tele

Nope. Mines one of those "American" made half breed California Fat Tele, with Duncan's. Pearly Gates in the neck, and a Broadcaster in the bridge. It's why I have the extra Tex-Mex pickup.

Re: Classic Vibe Tele

If the Tex-Mex Tele lead pickup is destined to be installed in your friend's Squier CV Telecaster, I suggest that you find out exactly how it sounds before choosing a neck pickup.

It is difficult to know how bright or smooth or powerful the neck pickup needs to be to balance out the Tex-Mex bridge/Treble pickup. There is also an argument for conversion into a single pickup Esquire.

Re: Classic Vibe Tele

CV '50 VB already has decent pickups and I actually like the stock bridge pickup (hotter spectrum of tele bridge pickup - more rockin'/less twang - and maybe that's why the note definition is perceived as less pronounced) more than Fender Tex-Mex (not bad yet not great either). You could improve it though with a set of Duncans like Broadcaster and Vintage Rhythm. Just find used ones. That would be nice of you to do that for your friend, btw.

Re: Classic Vibe Tele

SD STL1b Broadcaster and Vintage Rhythm all the way, best couple I've ever heard on a tele.

Squiers of that breed are really good guitars, I have a Squier VM Jazzmaster and a Squier VM Jaguar and they are (with new pickups on the JM and custom bridges) my number one gig guitars now.
