clean, mellow, soft, jazzy pup for a hollowbody?

Hello,

will be getting a 335 copy today, which strangely enough (for me) is a full hollowbody - no center wood block. This is an Aria Pro II TA-60...

I have no experience with hollowbody guitars and what can enhance the hollow tone. I am trying to find out if this one will differ in some way with my other 335 copy (Artcore AS73) that's got an Antiquity set. Is it possible for me to ensure that I put in pickups that will sound clean and mellow for soft jazzy tones?

Are there any in the regular SD humbucker stable that will fit the bill? I would appreciate your inputs and comments. Btw, Bennedetos are not locally available, and the local dealer doesn't accept returns/exchanges on pickups. So I'll be relying on your inputs to get the right pups the first time around!

Thanks in advance!

Jaime G.

p.s. DiMarzio alternatives are ok too if the proper SD's can't be found hereabouts.

I think Wes Montgomery got about the best hollowbody tone ever.

Alnico 5 59N would be close to the Gibson patent number pickups he used.

The Jazz N would have a little more harmonics and a little less "woof" to the bass.

The Seth Lover N is what I use in my Hamer Monoco and it gets a fat, warm, clean tone I love.

The Antiquity N gets the most "hollow" and complex tone of those I mentioned.

Those are some good choices.

Good luck!

Humbuckers only?

I ask because the best jazzy tone I've gotten has been with the Phat Cats in my Epi Sheraton.

Thank you all so much for your suggestions! I will go see what' the store's got. Unfortunately SD's 30-day exchange policy is not in effect here, so hopefully one of your suggested pups is available and I can get it right the first time (don't wanna pile up humbuckers in my drawer, like i did with single coils!).

Benjy 26, sorry but I've never seen or heard the Phat Cat hereabouts. Just out of curiosity, does it fit in the routing and plastic ring of a humbucker? I would love to try P-90's too someday.

Thanks again guys!

THe Phat Cat is a P-90 made to fit in a humbucker cavity. I got a pair in my Sheraton and they rock! Beautiful cleans and enough spit and snarl to do well with OD.
